295 ft/lbs, which is low.

It gets 250ft/lbs at 2,000 rpm though, which means it should be a flat curve.

Didnt know BMW needs 8 cylinders and 4.0L to make Lawn Mowers.

A 98-05 1uzfe makes more peak torque than the new M3's engine. But then again, the M3 probably has a redline of at least 8500rpm. Short stroke and long bore will give you less torque, but more higher end hp (compare to a long stroke, short bore. Which only means BMW must have made the gearing short. It's not too often you see a 4.0L V8 rev up to 8500 rpm in a production car. As long as the torque is useable, I dont care how much torque it makes.

the sound of the ITR engine @8500 RPM is intoxicating. I can't imagine what it would sound like with the V8 @ 8500 RPM..

now, the IS-F with the bigger displacement (5.0) V8, HP and TQ gotta be higher than the 420 & 295 for sure..

So the RS4 is now pretty seriously "out torqued"

how can you have a higher torque # than the max hp when the higher torque # is produced at a rpm higher than the max hp?!!?!

if it has 295 ft/lbs of torque, then according to the conversion equation (hp = torque x rpm / 5252), then @ 8400, there should be 471hp!

that's what I was thinking too. The max torque rpm seemed ultra odd.

Flat torque curve or not, it still will have a lot less overall torque than the IS-F. And the IS-F could very well have more HP at a lower RPM than the M3. And we are comparing an M3 Coupe to an IS-F sedan, keep in mind. The M3 sedan with the same engine would be a bit slower.

The IS-F better be more torquey than the M3. Looks like it's going to have 25% more displacement than the M3.

My prediction -- the IS-F will be more of a straight-line missile, more of a nature of the AMG, while M3 will be more of a curve and corner attack weapon.

Anybody knows the bore and stroke of both engines?

I thought it would have been putting out more power than 295 lb-ft at 3,900 rpm but it's still a nice setup........looks like it'll be a top end monster.
