World's Most Iconic Cars . . .

Ferrari Enzo voted world’s most iconic car

Monday 12 February 2007

A motoring research team funded by former Top Gear presenter Peter Burgess has picked Ferrari’s Enzo as the world’s most iconic supercar in the Zurich Iconic Car Index. The Enzo beat out a field of 100 cars, and was picked via a sophisticated formula that weighted factors including price, performance, engine power and marque. It even beat Bugatti’s Veyron, the most expensive and fastest car on the list.

The list was compiled for the Zurich Private Clients insurance company to better understand what type of vehicles the world’s super-rich are buying. CEO Nick Brabham said “the Iconic Car Index provides a fascinating insight into what the world’s most affluent people may consider buying if they’re after the ultimate drive.

The Zurich Iconic Car Index Top 10 is as follows:

1. Ferrari Enzo £425,000
2. Porsche Carrera GT £315,000
3. Ferrari F599 £157,000
4. Aston Martin Vanquish S £177,000
5. Mercedes-Benz SLR £317,000
6. Bugatti Veyron £840,000

8. Lamborghini Murcielago £175,000
9. Bentley Continental GT £115,00
10. Pagani Zonda £380,000

"Picked via a sophisticated formula that weighted factors including price, performance, engine power and marque."
Hmmm. No sedans...

I guess functionality and luxury just isn't "iconic" in the eyes of Top Gear.

Were you expecting to see Toyotas and Lexi on the list?

Personally, I think the World's Most Iconic Cars list should be reserved for iconic cars.

keep in mind that this guy is NOT affiliated with Top Gear.

he was the fat presenter from back when the revamped sereis came back like 4 years ago but was axed in favor of James May.

No. Not Lexus or Toyota.

How about Rolls Royce? Bentleys? Hell, even an H1 can be "iconic" depending on how you look at it...

I'll agree with that. I suppose the story is more interesting if they use exotic sports cars, though.

Glad they figured out a way to re-shuffle the same list..lol

Depends on how you use 'iconic'....

as far as I see it, the original mini cooper deserves to be there more than half the list. So does the VW beetle. The Supra and Skyline GT-R are modern Icons.
The Countach/Diablo deserves a place there more than the Murcielago.... The F40 more than the enzo....then agin.....ok scratch that last one...

But anyway, i'm sure you see my point. Just another throwaway list thought up by someone who thinks they are 'in the know'. Motoring research committe my @ss..... If they wanted to research the cars rich ppl buy these days, name the list appropriately. Status symbols or whatever.

pffft "Iconic cars"......ha

Screw their list. Here's mine.:p

Range Rover (The Truck and that little old lady from England rides in one)
Lambo (pick your model)
Oh well Ferrari too.
Rolls Royce (obvious reasons)
Bentley (see above)
VW Beetle (those ugly little things are everywhere)
MB S-Class
Nissan Skyline (Though I'm not a fan)
Mini Cooper
Toyota Supra
Aston Martin (007 need I say more)
Bugatti (Just Because)
BMW M3
Porsche 911
Hummer (A legend of Beastliness)
Chevy Corvette (American Icon if there ever was one)

WTF...that's just a supercar/super GT list, not an iconic car list.

Iconic cars should have stories and legend behind them. What's the story behind the Continental GT, the SLR, or 612 Scaglietti anyway? Just because they're expensive doesn't automatically make them iconic. LexLaw's list is much better indeed.
