Default 2008 Subaru WRX Spy Shots

Dropping its trunk - and the WRX initials too?
by Brenda Priddy (2007-01-29)

Here's one last look at a WRX prototype before its make its official debut at the New York Auto Show in a few months.

Subaru gave us a big clue with the showing of their B5 concept, and the Impreza and WRX models are following the B5's lead with a dramatic makeover, one which turns its trunk into a hatchback.

The WRX, as seen here, will be a hatchback when the new model makes its debut for the 2008 model year, just like the B5 Concept. And, we're hearing the Impreza name may even change with the introduction of the new car--but we can't imagine Subaru dropping the WRX designation.

As for power, we're anticipating a big update to their 2.5-liter flat-four turbo, with an output of around 330 horsepower likely for the U.S. market.

I want to see the interior, I've heard they benchmarked the A3's interior for the new Rex. Wait, 330hp just for the reg. WRX?!

I miss liftbacks and hatches.
I miss AWD coupes too. I gotta give props to BMW for bringing out the 328xi coupe.

And the hatch that they are showing looks like a turtle.

Well hatches are definately a lot more space efficient than sedans.
