Not really. It's true. I grew up in the Midwest where all the dealers had some kind of chrome thing they'd rivet, screw, weld onto the car. Not in California anywhere I've seen ever, and I've been here almost 27 years now.

Only Rallye Lexus in Glen Cove,NY when it comes to Lexus comes to my head in the NYC area does so. Their Acura, BMW and Mercedes-Benz dealers does aswell. Luckily for me Mazda was going to put one of those but the dealer had to pick up my car from a another dealer so when it was time for pickup they didn't put it.

Yeah, it's stupid when they do that. The license frame is no biggie and is pretty much expected. At least people know it's not a part of your car.

Yes it does happen in California. I see "BMW of San Francisco" and "Peter Pan BMW" decals all the time. But at least those are just decals, it sucks double-time when it's a big fat custom dealer emblem.

Default Dealer's Name decal

I have had my RX350 for 8 weeks. I noticed the dealer name decal starting to come off!
I removed the letters one by one. It came off very easy. As an owner we are not obligated to
keep their name on? The plate still has the dealer's name on it!

Not done with luxury brands in MI. Maybe if you buy a Ford or Lincoln.

1st new Lexus had a dealer sticker on it. Peeled off immediately using a hair dryer. 2nd new one no sticker (different dealer) but both had dealer license plate frames.

I turned the frames around (backwards) so just the chrome-look frame border is visible and the plate has some support with no advertising.

All dealers have stickers and plastic piece stick on ads in my area.
I tell the dealer to take off the sticker or plastic ad before I take delivery. The plate frame with the dealer print ad is taken off and replaced with a quality license plate frame when the registration and plates comes.

No free advertising allowed on my cars! Those license plates and anything else with the dealer name comes off real quick after buying a car.

My future father-in-law buys cars from Utah and they almost always have those dealer badges on the back. It's not hard to remove them though, just use some fishing line to go behind the badge and then saw at the adhesive. Then just scrub off what you can with a wet sponge, anything left over can be removed with claybar usually. Can't tell it was ever there afterwards

That practice of dealerships drilling holes through the sheet-metal, though, eventually became frowned-upon by the auto manufacturers themselves, for the obvious reason.........it made rust and corrosion more likely, at a time when rust-through warranties were starting to become the norm.

People.. calm down. It's removable firs thing, and 2nd just request them to remove it if you don't want it. It's advertisement, that's all. If you're in business of selling cars and a car came from the dealer, don't you think the dealer would want to advertise on a rolling vehicle their dealer info so others would know them?

I got my LS from a dealer that had a sticker AND plate covers with their name. I removed both the day I got home, plain and simple. Was it bothersome? A little, but that was it. ha ha, funny the things that get people ruffled around some times.
