The real story is the middle class is shrinking. The lower wage earners are buying Hondas and Toyotas because they do not have money for repairs, performance, or luxury.

I think over time less and less high end vehicles will be sold. I see mote Maximas, Altimas, Camrys, Accords, Civics on the road then the upscale counterparts.

Car prices have really got out of control. It should be very interesting the next 10-20 years.

I think people are gonna buy something with more functional style and reliability, than performance and luxury; especially in urban areas where people deal with traffic and difficulty finding parking. You can't enjoy a nice luxury performance car in traffic, and if parked in the streets every night.

That's why Scion is a big hit. They're as functional as you can get, with a little extra style compared to other econoboxes.

Good point. Also, I think statewide the numbers are correct. However, in the affluent areas like LA, San Diego, you will find BMW, MB, Lexus with much higher percentage sales. LA for example it the number one location for BMW sales. The numbers reflected show sales for a highly popluated state of which many can't afford homes, etc.
