Clarkson on the GL class: If you own one, I'll stick you in the eye with a fork"
Crazy how differences overseas can be so different! The GL class won SUV of the Year here and was 1st place in another comparison. Clarkson had his usual editorial in Top Gear basically saying how he understands the "G" class and loves it, but the rest of the Benz trucks/vans, he pretty much hates.
He called owners of the "R" class stupid b/c the Volvo XC 70 is cheaper and better in every way.
BUt his tirade was really on the GL class. He called it ugly and really just for Americans (and of course we are stupid). What was funny was his description of driving it, saying, he thought he was in the left lane but the SUV was so big, he was in the left, middle AND right lanes at the same time

He mentioned it's ridiculous to park, etc etc etc
He basically ripped it a new one. The funny thing is he called Benz to borrow one, and they let him use it. In return, they get a new one ripped.
He then ends the editorial saying how if he is at dinner and finds out someone at the table owns one, he would take a fork and stick you in the eye with it!

I think Clarkson hates Americans more than certain types of cars.
He hates the GL (and every Lexus) because it caters to those that want creature comforts instead of Autobahn handling/performance.

I wonder what's the reason as compared to the other full size suvs-suburban/yukon xl/expedition el/escalade esv.....???
It was about time that mb has a full size suv but doesn't seem to sell as well as the ml?
I agree about the r class being way overpriced.

Clarkson doesn't 'get' the GL because he lives in the UK with quaint curvy and tiny 2 lane roads with hedges on both sides in most places. Driving a GL there would feel like driving a school bus here.
