Don't bash bimmer

My first car was a 1998 gs400. i loved that car so much, but got rid of it years ago. my next car was a bmw dinan 3, whichis a modified 330i. while there were certain things i missed about the v8, the bmw is 10xs more fun to drive. i went to the taste of lexus event last week to see if i liked the gs 450h enough 2 buy it. i was shocked at how quickly the car gave up and i didn't feel any of the magic that my old gs gave 2 me. i can't see how anyone can say that the new gs is better than the old. i was disappointed with the is350 also. while it had power, it just was too sloppy.

BMW has really spoiled me. i am going to set up a test drive of the 335i coupe next week to see how i like it.

hahah... i recommend that put the flame suit on.

I went from a 3 to the gs400, while I love the gs and pretty much the whole lexus line up, hope to get a ls430 or 400 the GS didnt really leave the 3 in the dust like as much as I thought it would. But I have to hand it to lexus/toyota when it comes to reliablity, and well built cars they know what they are doing, at least in my experience so far.

My e46, while it had nothing wrong with it, but being one of the early ones, I was afraid of being one of the lucky few, that had the rear subframe tear, or the bad tranny. And since money isnt really excessive at the moment, I decided to trade it in for a make that I know I will be able to count on.

The new coupe imo is amazing, saw it but wasnt able to drive as the car was sold. I saw it down in texas, and the salesman told me that they recently had this lady that liked the new coupe so much that she decided to buy 3 coupes (335i) for her family. and the one on the floor was one of hers. This was back like 2 months ago, when the coupes were barely making their debut. I hope that BMW refines the new 3 where they failed to on the e46, and some of their other cars. For now I am happy with that ole big key with a gold "L" on it. Keep us posted on the test drive!

i ready cause i been on both sides of the fence. i have stories and receipts for all the workdone on the gs and the dinan. so if someone wants to talk about reliability then let's do it. the only clear advantage that lexus has is how u get treated by the service reps. i wanted to get the gs or any lexus for that matter, but once the lexus event was over i ran back to my bmw and it just was better than anything i drove that day. i am being honest. i am not loyal to any brand, i just want the best.

Yeah, that 335 coupe or sedan looks just sick! Atleast performance wise... killer looking exterior and for the coupes, the rims look pretty good too. Unfortunately, I don't really like the hard, stone like padding of the seats or the very cold feeling germanic interior, sad cause I am only 21 but I much more greatly prefer the warm and lush feeling of my GS to a BMW 3 series and a 5 series (the 550 atleast) is way out of my price range though that interior feels more luxurious than the 3s.

Only things I don't like about German luxury cars is:
1) since i am poor (relatively speaking), I am forced to buy used and the recent wave of electronic glitches and minor parts breaking down in late model Bimmers, Mercs, and Audi's really worry me, especially combined with the fact the German makes often cost 2-3 times more than Lexus, Acura, or Infinity to repair.
2) Seats are a bit too hard, it doesnt seem like leather to me when its rock hard. Of course for a proportion of entry level German cars out there, it really isn't leather but rather vinyl.
3) Definitely that brand stigma, you are automatically stereotyped if you are driving a bimmer or merc, especially if you are young and asian.

it is funny how your title said don't bash bimmer but your entire post you bashed Lexus.. i don't think that's fair do you?

Bimmers are great. It's their owners who are ___________ :wild:

I'm sure a lot of people don't disagree when you say the bmw is more fun to drive.
But the main reason I bought my lexus was because it 100x's more reliable.
My girlfriend had all sorts of problems with her `02 325i...right when the warranty ended, all the window regulators died (not at the same time).
Additionally, there were all sorts of rattles and squeaks that annoys the hell out of her.
I'm not saying that Lexus makes better motors the BMW, her motor ran like a champ!
Last year she sold the 3 series and bought the IS300, and it has been running perfectly ever since.

I'm the original owner of my ES300, AND I"VE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR YET! I have a 140k miles on it now there's no signs of wearing down - that's the main reason why i'll keep this car it dies.:eek2:

bmw owners are just passionate, but so r lexus owners. when i purchased the gs 4 i chose it over a 540 cuz i thought it was a better car. the gs fit me like a glove. my taste has changed in cars i now prefer smaller more nimble cars. i just think that bmw really knows how to put a great well rounded driver oriented car together. what really surprised me about lexus this past weekend was the interiors of the cars. i always loved them but the don't have a car in their current line up that has a great interior. the plastics have gotten cheaper, as they have with every other automaker. there r things i don't like about bmw also. the 5 is ugly and the 7 is even worse, however i love the 6 and the 3's. it's gonna come down to a 335 coupe and a hardtop 650i.

to the guy that said germans use fake leather and have hard seats. i don't know which car u drove, but the seats in my fully loaded dinan 3 are leather and when i hit a corner at high speeds i am not flying sideways like i did in my gs400.

KINGLEX Oct 26, 2006 08:51 PM

oh and both the drivers and passenger seats still feel the same after 5 years. after 3 years with the gs the passenger seat was more comfortable than the drivers.

GSteg Oct 26, 2006 09:04 PM

My driver side seat is flat as a pancake. Passenger side is more comfortable though. I've never had that kind of problem in a BMW, but slightly in my old Acura. I need to get my seat redone.

I can't say my 99' lexus GS is the most reliable car i've owned because it left me stranded before. I poured a lot of money into it to fix little problems, but I still have rattles and squeak, something I didn't have in my 1992 Acura.

Overall, I bought the GS because I got it at a good price. I was hoping with the reputation of lexus, I wouldn't have to deal with little stuff. I guess cars with more gadget will come with a higher repair tag. :(

We rarely bash BMWs, if anything its the owners. I find people bash Lexus period, just b/c its Japanese.

I have a great respect for the brand and do plan on owning one one day, either after Chris Bangle has met his maker or being an older model before he was born.lol

E46 M3 CSL=my fav bimmer of all time!
