Didn't have time to read the whole thing but... In a way that is a good thing! Could be a catch 22 because if you weren't in a subby, the accident could have been so bad you didn't need the jaws of life anymore.

See? I meant what I said when I told you guys Subarus weren't junk.
I've heard local firemen in this area talk about this before.
( to be honest, though, Subaru engines aren't always as reliable as Toyota or Honda engines )

One of the reasons Subaru reinforces the B-pillars so much is that unlike most vehicles they don't have door frames around the windows....the door assembly consists of only that part below the window bases, so the B-pillar is made extra strong to compensate for the door's lack of rigidity and the support that the window frame would normally give.

my uncle has been a subaru owner for many years now. He never had many problems with them, but I was never a huge fan of the look. But I see the safety aspect of these cars and it has me considering one of these in the future

The Forester received a Good rating(thats the highest rating in the crash tests) without the use of side curtain airbags.
