Geneva will stage Saab’s Aero-X concept that promises to give us glimpse of the Swedish firms long awaited coupe model. Seeing the first official picture of the car, it seems that Saab has based the concept on GM’s Soltice / GT / Sky roadster platform, that means that the concept will use a front engine-rear wheel drive arrangement, a first for the Swedes. More information about Saab's new concept car will be available on Carscoop latter this week.

Here are the details we've been able to ascertain about the car so far:

1. Vehicle name: Aero-X

2. Unveiling: Feb 27 at 5pm in a special event prior to the Geneva Motor Show

3. The car is purely a design concept, intended to give focus to Saab's future design direction. It's said to point towards the Sonett of the past and Saab's aviation heritage in general and is based on a unique platform not currently in production.

4. The car will feature a 3 litre V6 (unverified) fitted with Biopower bits and twin turbo. The Saab press release mentions 400hp.

5. The 'X' designation, combined with the hefty horsepower indicates that AWD will be fitted.

6. The 2-door coupe body is reported to be around the size of an Aston Martin DB9 and features either upward tilting or sliding doors. A journo from Popular Mechanics who saw the sketches said "The front doors and the cockpit glass are connected and tilt forward in one big unit."

7. The concept may possibly go into production on a shortened Epsilon II platform depending on public reaction.

If it ever got remotely close to production, the roof stays put and doors get put on.

Just some concept buzz builder.

man tak about a firefighters night mare come true on that thing...how in the hell would you quickly get a person out?

It won't even come close to production. However, it's probably safe to expect some styling cues to build off of this one.

Personally, I agree with you, but the General seems to want everybody in their camp to have a Solstice clone so who knows? They obviously aren't bright enough to estimate what the whole market is for a two seat Miata wannabe (I am not debating whether the Solstice is better or worse than Miata, just competitive with it).

Well, Im not the biggest fan of this concept, but its funny to see any concept car that is actually driven around. This car kinda looks badass when you see it next to a regular Audi. But then again, I should get the same reaction with every concept car.

Is anyone else pinging when you drive up the steep ramp onto the podium display?
