You can't make a factory car audio tape head produce a digital signal

If the Sony is so quiet, I'll see if they make a regular cassette adapter. Thanks for the tip!
I just checked Amazon.com for the Smartdeck. They have it really cheap, but the reviews suck.
Here is the page:

(Not sure if that link will work - you can search if not).
Sony makes a plain cassette that is on the Target site, but I didn't see it at the local store. I might just order it online and see how it goes.

Sure it's handy, but defeats the purpose of the Ipod to play high bitrate digital music. I see a slight advantage to using it, but it's an 8-track fix in a $60k car. The interfaces to aftermarket head units will be pure digital and really clean the sound up.
I haven't seen a good installer yet that couldn't achieve a factory finish. Seen a few bad one's though.

I actually bought my Sony cassette adapter from a local Target so it's probably the same one. I think you'll like it.
I went to a different Target to give back the noisy tape cartridge. This Target actually had the Sony one, but they wanted $20 for it - I wound up buying a Sony CD/MP3 CD player with the cartridge, a wired remote, charger and new earbuds for $55 instead.
This cartridge is definitely much quieter - not noise free, but livable. Thanks for the tips.
