I've had a Kawi ZX11 (awesome motor), ZX6r, Honda VTR1000 super chicken, and most recently a Yamaha RS Warrior. I'm between bikes right now, and in fact I've been trying to decide between a Ducati ST4 and the BMW R1150RT sport tourers...
My dad is another BMW rider... he has an R1100R. Sweet bike, he's thinking about upgrading to the GS though. Its a big difference in ride style, but whatever...
I've been thinking about the LT. My commute is pretty far now and I'd love the comfort and luggage. How do you like it?
The LT is by far the most comfortable bike that I have ever ridden. Once I decided to upgrade to a touring bike I really only wanted a Honda Gold Wing. But once I rode it, I decided that it was too small for me. I know that it sounds funny but the BMW is taller and fits my 6'4" frame much better. Plus the Bimmer has a longer list of standard features: heated grips, heated seat, ABS, AM-FM 7 CD changer, alarm, electrically adjustable windshield, trip computer. I'm not sure that it would make a good commuter bike because of it's size and relatively high center of gravity but I do know of a couple of guys that use it as their primary transportation. It is a great bike but definitely not for a first time rider.
BTW, do you have any family from Roanoke Alabama? My mother's family is named Smedley.

LOL, no, no family there! I took the name Smedley from a hero of mine, Gen. Smedley Butler, USMC.
I've gotta take the LT for a ride. Did you see that the GoldWing is coming out with the first motorcycle airbags?
Its a bit of a pig in the turns, but with the mods I have done it will keep up with almost anything in a straight line.
at the track... I have run an 11 flat at 12psi of boost. I went to the track with C16 race fuel and the boost up to 18psi, but I fried the clutch. haha
With my friend Amber onboard...
