Default Woulod you buy it?

1968 GTO. Runs ok, interior is bad. Just had new floor put in. Exterior body is ok, badly needs paint.

$2000.

Fun project or no?

Basically would need new interior, paint, and some mechanical work.

if you have extra money that you cant spend on something like this, i think it would be a great project. why not? you could make a great car out of it

From your other posts it seems like you are a very busy man. Even though its a "project" do you really need the extra burden?

I would pass it up.

Well, it will be a BIG project and potentially very expensive too. But if you're passionate about it, do it.

Its going to be a money pit, but I would buy it if you have the extra flow!

I recently did a rough tally on what it would take for my pop's '63 Fairlane for a modern day update. My tally came in at $40K minimal. Several of my hot rod buddies agreed with the assessment. This is a for a reasonable job. A friend recently completed his '37 told me in confidence it was $60K but he told the wife it was $45K. This was spread out over 5 years.

Easier to buy one already done and add your touches. Watchout for the "some mechanical work", it oftend tends to be a lot more.

Mike,

I am not looking for a show car - just a nice classic muscle car. My body guy can have the exterior done for $3500 with the dents etc removed and fresh paint. The interior about $2000. An overhaul on the engine - $5000.

I'm looking at an investment of $10,000 after buying the car.

Looks like the price is somewhat in the right range, suspect the car is pretty rough given your description.

If you're going to get anything out of your investment other than personal satisfaction, make sure the numbers match on the engine and transmission for the car. If you're truly going to restore it rather than rebuild it, that will save you a LOT of hardship down the road and make the car much more valuable at any point even if you aren't truly restoring it. The 5K is pretty steep for an engine overhaul on one of these, BTW unless you're really building it up. Of course my price point on doing my old 389 is 15 years old so maybe its me .

PS during these years with the endura front bumper (rubber nose) make sure there are no chunks missing. My favorite option on these is the ram air setup with hood tach

For $10K, if that's all it needs.

With pop's machine: I originally wanted it to be streetable. Having to do a leg press to get the thing to stop wasn't fun. No A/C...it's definitley not one to drive in the summer comfortably. No biggie, a brake upgrade, A/C and new wheels/tires...but then it didn't end, one change led to another and so on...

Mustang type front end, multi-link rear, a modest 4.6L and modification of the engine bay shock mounts...rust repair and other associated body frame work.... It is an entertaining thought when I look at it sitting there.
