I think it looks good, but Toyota has lately been screwing up their rears. The new Solara, GS, and now Avalon...don't like the rears at all.

I think it will remedy the previous Avalon's poor sales. This vehicle is huge, and easily larger than the 300C, now all it needs is a TRD blower, and rwd.

Well w/Toyota shifting focus to hybrid, they've put alot of energy into Scion. You will probably never see a TRD S/C for an Avalon ever again (the sales for it's S/C for 97-99 was a huge flop for TRD USA). RWD, leave that to the RWD Lexus labelmates.

Definite bangle ques from the rear. So far I like the design though. Need to see some front pics.

A lot of family resemblence with Toyota Crown Majestic.

Very fresh and modern look, I think Toyota and Nissan are currently obsess with the slab side, square trunk, tall sedan look. This Avalon, the upcoming GS, Toyota Crown, the current LS, Maxima, Altima, they all have very similar side profile.

I like the high beltline / narrow window look, reminds me of the 300C and Dodge Magnum.

First thought is.....man looks like a BMW.

I guess that's both a good & a bad thing.

Pretty large and in charge. But it will probably be a really good value when compared with the ES

I'd probably just leave the stock wheels on - but otherwise, I agree. Silver or darker color and grey or black leather would be my preference.

I do believe this car will easily displace Nissan's flagship (the new Maxima) - in all respects - from the front of the pack in the segment.

As some of you have noted, it does look pretty large; I wonder how it'll measure up to the current car.

Oh - and I'd be VERY tempted to pocket the difference between this and the new RL and enjoy nearly the same amenities. Having stubbornly retained the FWD (now elect. cont. awd) platform, the RL will never truly achieve the status of its higher price competition and will always be relegated to comparisions between and among cars like the Avalon.

So it DOES have somebody else's woman under the hood ...

"c. short-stroke variant of 1GR-FE 4.0L V6 from 4Runner, Tacoma, Tundra
ref: 1GR-FE = 3. 70" X 3.74" (94 X 95 mm)"

I wondered where they were getting this 3.5 liter. Since the rumor began that the Avolon would have more power than the ES (3.3L) - I wondered what cost-effective solution Toyota had planned ... here's the definitive answer.

Thanks for posting the specs MPLexus301.

An all-new 3.5L V6 putting out 280hp and 260 ft/lbs!! That's exactly what they need to put in the new GS and IS, not some peaked out 3.0L!!

Thanks again for all the info, MPLexus301!

Default I like it

My first thought was NICE! I like it more than the new GS!!!!!!(looks wise, anyways)
Look out ES
Now make it RWD V8 and we've got a real winner!

Looking at some of those features, the quality of the interior, and some aspects of the overall design, I hope that Toyota hasn't sailed too far into Lexus territory with this car. Yes the GS300 is RWD, but that seems to be one of the only selling points over an Avalon. 35 more HP, 30 more lb-ft of torque, more room, more features at a lower price, ect.

I know that both cars will attract very different consumers, but I still have to wonder...

Looks pretty nice! A big improvement over the current Avalon, which IMO is hideous because of it's top heavy look.

ANd I don't where people see a resemblance with a GS or BMW or Chris Bangle styling. First off, the GS has a shorter rear deck and more curvaceous side flanks. The Avalon is pretty slad sided, also the tailights or trunklid look nothing like a Bangle job. The new Avalon tailights are basically the evolution of the current Avalon's and there is no hunchback look like the 7-series.

Overall, the Avalon is pretty original in design, IMO. The only thing that makes it look like a GS or a BMW is that it has 4-wheels and 4-doors.
