Carrera's blowing up?

I was reading some German enthusiast's auto mag a couple days back, they long-termed a Carrera and managed to blow the motor twice. Thought I would share, long live the NSX :D

that happens when you knife the throttle pedal to the floor, drain the oil, and remove the radiator. :D

I love both the NSX and 911.
They are reliable too.
One or two blowups say nothing :D

I too love both but I have read several publications that say Porsche engines have a history of failing. Also would not compare Porsche reliability with the NSX since it really is a Honda. Both great cars though.

For my money, I'll always pick the NSX over the 911Carrera, I' ve never admired any 911 models for it's looks, though I always respect them. Yes I know it's just a Honda, but it's reliable & easy to live with daily just like a Honda :D

NSX is a great car, but a 911 is better than sex.

Amen to that. . .

But about the cars :D . I agree, both are exceptional cars. And many 911s can be found with over 200k on them. But then the whole "if you have money to buy one, you have money to maintain one" arguement comes in. As much as the two are alike, I still say you're comparing apples to oranges.

if you have the means to own a 911, then a blown engine wont put a dent in your wallet!

My '85 911 Targa was (relatively) inexpensive to buy and is very inexpensive to maintain if you do the work yourself. Engines stayed pretty uncomplicated until the 90's. 130k miles and it runs perfectly. I expect a minumum of 200k before the engine needs to be opened up.

I hope the 997's also maintain a high level of quality as they seem to be a good overall improvement over the 996.

If you buy a Porsche here at the porsche dealers they will give you a factory guarantee even if it has traveled 200k kms.
They really have faith in them.

911s are well built cars and a dream car of mine. I am sure this will be fixed soon.

Don't forget that Porsche continually ranks close to top in J. D. Power's long-term reliability study.
In fact, it topped ALL automakers in the study last year (while Lexus topped all brands).
Not all German cars are made unreliable.;)

That's probably because Porsche replaces the engines without fuss nor fight. They deserve props for standing behind the cars and their engines. They don't care if you blow the engine trying to play Al Unser. Some automakers would argue with you about what you may have done wrong. It happened to my mom with her 97 Camry. Toyota knew and admitted the engines had a history of the oil becoming jelled but refused to fix the car. They accused my mom of not changing the oil close to service recommended intervals. Big ups to Porsche.
