Bit the bullet. I got a new car.
I've test-driven the Jag X-Class. Nice Jag looks and interior, but underneath pretty much a redone AWD Ford Mondeo..albeit a good-looking one. Somewhat pricey.......the AWD partly justifies this, but for better quality, AWD, and almost as good looks to boot, the Subaru 3.0L Outback L.L. Bean is a better buy.
The X-Class has been unreliable since its introduction, according to several sources.

I rented one of these for the weekend several months ago. On close inspection, the looks are nice. Fit and finish was not of the larger Jags but certainly better than the average car. Interior room was adequate but slightly tight for my 6-2 270lb frame. Electronics were nothing to rave about but presented no annoyed feelings. Engine power was also adequate but pull when pressed was nothing to shout about. My complaint, tranny sucks. I try to adjust my driving to the shift pattern of the gears. Couldn't do it. Three days was more than enough time to judge. Over all, my impression was a nice car but not worth the price. The good part, it still felt like a Jag. You'd have to have been in the older Jags to know what I mean but it is a Jag disguised as a Ford. Which is better than a Ford disguised as a Jag.
