Unhappy help setting garage door opener

Can anyone tell me how to get the garage door opener programmed to the manufacturer one in the visor? I've tried several times and can't seem to get it to work...no dumb blonde jokes please...I really have tried, it just doesn't want to work. Step by step would be great. Thanks!

1. push and hold down the button for 20 seconds until the light begins to flash
2.bring the garage door opener 1 inch from the button being programmed then push the button on the garage door opener
3. when the frequency is registered the indicator flashes rapidly then you can release both buttons

thats it i hope i helped .....................shawn

it depends on the brand, if you have a Chamberlain/Lift-Master or Craftsman, there should be instructions on the opener. Genie is a slighly different procedure, are you trying to program an HomeLink remote?

Some of the brands mentioned have rolling code, so you can't do it the conventional Lexus way. I am also trying to program my garage again, so I will post again when I figure it out, unless someone can chime in earlier. Sorry, not much help yet. If the gdo is on the visor, then it's probably an RX???

one way to find if your garage door opener uses rolling code is look at the remote, if it says Intellicode or Security +, and you open up the battery door and there are no DIP switches, then it's rolling code.

here's some help from Lift-Master that will work on all Chamberlain openers(Chamberlain/Lift-Master/Craftsman):
http://www.liftmaster.com/cw/faq/residential/#11
and from Genie:
