Lol thanks. Its true though. I dont know why anyone would get a N/A Supra. Many ppl think that you can simply put a turbo in a non turbo supra, but the whole setup of the Turbo Supra is different. The Supra's my fav Toyota product.

...where do I start?

The 2JZ-GE has a higher compression ratio, slightly different internals (the piston heads are a little different) and it doesn't have oil squirters. Addtionally, the throttle body comes over the block, as opposed to the GTE where the throttle body sits parallel to the driver's side of the engine. The GTE has coil ignition, where as the GE has distributor ignition. The injectors, obviously, are also smaller on the GE engine.

The N/A Supra shares the same driveline as the SC300, both came with the 2JZ-GE engine coupled to either a W58 5 speed manual transmission or an automatic tranny (who cares about the model?)

The TT MKIV came with either an auto, or a 6 Speed Getrag V160 transmission. Its stock horspower was rated at 320 HP (at the crank) but many Stock TT MKIV owners have dyno'd between 290 and 300 RWHP. With a 30% drivetrain loss, that works out to slightly more than 320 horsies. In 1996 I believe the V160 wasn't available because of emission reasons. In 1997 & 98 the supra came with 3 channel ABS instead of the 4 channel available before. I believe the autos in 97 and 98 didn't have an LSD even though they were said to... Toyota was losing money on the Surpa at this point because they simple weren't selling. A car before its time you might say.

Both engines are very reliable, they both In line 6 Cyl. engines displacing 3.0 liters. And they both respond well to boost, boost, and more boost

LeXuSrAcIn: there are quite a few turbo'd SC300s running around, as well as NA-T MKIVs. When TT (2JZ-GTE) MKIVs want big HP, they go single. When SC300, IS300, GS300 (less common), MKIV Supras want boost, they as well go single.

Getting a different head gasket for the 2JZ-GE lowers the compression ratio and allows the newly turbo'd 2JZ-GE to run in a very similiar fashion to a 2JZ-GTE.

Why get a NA MKIV? Maybe because insurance is lower, you still can make 700 HP, and it'll be cheaper than a TT... with the appreciation on the MKIV these days, not much, but it still is.

Some companies that make turbo kits for the SC300/IS300/MKIV N/A

www.sound-performance.com
www.boostlogic.com
www.toyomoto.com (had a 10 second SC in 1993)
www.turbonetics.com

and there are more I can't remember off the top of my head.

www.powerhouseracing.com does a GE to GTE swap as well.

Furthermore, many of the supra components bolt right onto the SC300 -- it would appear that toyota merely stretched the MKIV and turned it into a coupe instead of a hatch back... but we can talk about the SC300 in another thread ('cause I could go on and on...)
