Red face Another Radar Detector Post...

The other thread was getting so long and old, I thought it best to post this in a new thread as what I have to say might help some of you guys as your state's local police depts get a hold of the newest technology.

I have a Valentine One and am very impressed with it's performance. It worked great UNTIL the state police in New Mexico and Colorado all started using Instant-on and POP-mode radar. No radar/laser detector, no matter how good, will protect you. You are done...toast!

Some detector manufactures claim POP mode detection, but this is scientifically imossible. Your only chance is to watch for blips of light and sound on the ValentineOne as the folks in front of you get zapped. As the manual for ValentineOne says, and I quote "It will at least give you a sporting chance".

After three tickets in less than one month out on the Interstate (I don't drive fast in town), I have given up my habit of speeding and am ready to sell this detector.

I can afford to drive an LS, but can't afford to lose my license. :-)

very true, with instant on i don't really think there is any way you can avoid that. i guess i would just say that with radar detector, it helps you but it doesn't prevent everything. you still have to look around to check things out

here in cali a lot of cops tend to just pace you from behind and ticket you, that's why even with my detector i look into my mirror all the time

Even looking behind won't necessarily tell you who is a cop and who isn't. I n my home town here in VA the Police Dept. has unmarked Monte Carlos, Camaro SS's (no, I'm not kidding), and the adjacent town has Volvos. ( the last Lieutenant Governor of the state owned a Volvo dealership in that town ). And what have you got next door in MD?.....everything from regular Crown Vics to farm trucks with hay bales stacked up on them.....with radar units hidden in the hay. And in DC next door? Radar CAMERAS that zap you through intersections.

The first poster.......drink300..... is right. Some things in life just aren't worth the hassle, and speeding is one of them. Throw the damn detectors away and just drive legally.

I agree!! And don't forget Laser. Here in St. Louis (and over in Illinois) that seems to be the weapon of choice now. They love to sit on overpasses where you cannot see them and their buddy is waiting just down the road. By then it is too late.

yea instant on is a pain in the *** ..i have a 8500 but most of the time i drive the speed limit.. i get scared getting caught in one of their speed traps, but most cops dont like using lasers during busy times because they have to sit their and aim at you, also laser jammers r legal in my state..
