Toyota Alessandro Volta
Toyota made big news in Geneva, unveiling this beautiful hybrid-powered sports car. Designed by Italdesign-Giugiaro, the Alessandro Volta—named after the Italian scientist who discovered the battery—features a carbon-fiber chassis and the same 3.3-liter V-6 and dual electric motors as the Lexus RX400h and Toyota Highlander hybrids. In the Volta, the mid-mounted powerplant is said to produce 402 horsepower. The second electric motor powers the front wheels, providing four-wheel traction without the need for a transmission shaft. Toyota says the Volta demonstrates the potential and flexibility of the Hybrid Synergy Drive system. Could it also foreshadow the next Supra? We can only hope.

This was in Autocar a couple of weeks ago. Probably the difference between Euro and US mags. I'll see if I can dig out the verbiage but as I recall they were talking about 0-60 in 4.2 sec. No problem for Toyota to make horsepower. Have to see about the handling.
