Lexus TZ Debuts!
there is also the issue that Lexus sort of phoned it in with the non EV platform ….

Couple of things I've noticed 1) CL members that don't own an EV are quite concerned about range and charging and 2) said members have driving habits that don't align with electric vehicles, they take frequent long trips and charging infrastructure happens to be poor in their area.
Given the above the Lexus TZ or any EV is a bad fit for them, luckily Toyota/Lexus has dozens of gas powered models to choose from.

Which is why if carmakers want to drive adoption of EVs, which they need to because of the massive amounts they have spent developing them assuming the Gov't was going to force adoption, they need to make it easier for us to make the jump. Carmakers can't afford to sell EVs only to people who are willing to make considerable compromises.

Thats true of most of the population when they consider going to EVs.

the issue with the range of the RZ is that it’s a Lexus and Lexus is supposed to be a luxury brand, range should start at 300..luxury. Back on topic which is the TZ, 300 miles of range is under the absolute “perfect” conditions which are 100% charge and 20-25c weather, @SW17LS wants an EV for the family, load up that TZ with 2-3 kids, strollers, stuff and maybe even a grandma..and @SW17LS would be lucky to get 150 miles of charge. The simple answer of going to some charger to charge for a road trip is not a solution…people who have no children don’t understand that sitting at a charger is terrible idea…

The 20% of the time it wasn’t ideal is just that, not the majority of the time. It has more range now so that’s changed a bit. Unfortunately sharing that 20% of the time here seems to ruffle feathers and make a few people here want to argue about every other scenario known to man. Just sharing my experience lol.
I likely will start a thread about our next family purchase being EV since Dominica is offering EV credits comparing to big import duties on ICE and larger engines.
Honestly, I would consider an RZ450e. I recognize range is a concern for many, but not for us with how we'd use the car. Taking range out of the equation, what we would want in an EV for my wife would be something that looks nice, is comfortable and safe, has some luxury to it, and drives well. Really, that's it!
All depends on your use case. For us the only thing that is a sticking point is range and recharging time and ease when traveling.
But, its about making potential buyers feel comfortable enough to make the jump in the first place. If these car manufacturers who have invested this much in EVs have to continue to sell in a marketplace where 5% of buyers are EV buyers...they're going to go under.

I'm a bit let down by the TZ's interior design. It looks more like a Premium Toyota than a Lexus. Perhaps my mind will change once I see it in colors other than black.
I planned to pick up the TZ to replace my aging RX450h, but so far I'm underwhelmed.

You never think you need for range, until you do. That's the problem. With the RZ or anything with a sub 300 range, it's going to be a problem because you are always cautioned not to charge beyond 80%. I used to charge to 80% in my eTron and got sick of seeing <180 miles of range on the guessometer. Now, I charge to 90%. Yes, I never really drive 200 miles in a day, but it's not ideal.

There’s nothing much wrong with charging beyond 80%, and with certain chemistries like LFP it’s recommended to fully charge at least once every week or so anyway. There’s very little evidence that you’re going to do much harm if your daily go-to home charge limit is over 80%, other than the generally-accepted best practice of trying not to let it sit at a very high SoC for an extended period. On my truck, Ford recommends 90% for daily driving and 100% as needed.

OR much better luxury EVs with gas like range. The iX3 already got EPA certified for 430+ miles of range with 400kW charging which should be good for the next decade of infrastructure improvements. The iX5 is rumored to get a 147kW battery pack which should be good for 500+ miles of range. Coupled with 400kW charging that should significantly reduce range anxiety for the gasser holdouts.
