Lexus TZ Debuts!
so about this range thing and 'calamity' of driving on 'trips'...
today we had to do a trip we've done many times in ice and ev's. no it's not 350 mi. to b--f--- middle of nowhere but it's 270mi. from central to se florida. the 100% range of the ev we took (gv60) is about 300 mi. on a good day
if speed isn't mad. i charged last night to 100% at home (free). we normally do 200mi. to a walmart where there's about a dozen 350kw electrify america chargers. by then we definitely need to get out to stretch legs, usually a bio break, maybe get a snack. this time my other half needed to stop about 40 miles before then at the turnpike service station. knowing it had tesla chargers there and a bunch of florida power and light ones, we considered charging there. fpl ones were full and i think the tesla ones are still old v2 superchargers, so no go. no problem we continued to walmart. there were half a dozen available, so pulled in, plugged in, select charger station in the app, and off it went. we wandered around walmart and got a couple of things we'd use on the trip. got back to the car. it had 5 minutes left to complete recharging to 80%. since it was only 60mi. to our destination that was fine, we checked our phones, waited the 5, unplugged and were on our way. cost: also free with EA.
was this a hassle to us? absolutely not.
since we're not camels
we don't care to drive the whole 270mi. without stopping anyway, especially with traffic and construction on the turnpike, the trip is always 5 hrs. we need to take a break.
would it be great if our ev had say 400mi. max range instead of 300? sure, but then we'd just have to charge upon arriving at our destination or before leaving, so no difference.
ev's aren't for everyone, especially those who expect the experience to mirror their ice vehicles.

True.
BMW pushing their batteries much harder.
However, BMW still 8 years 100k miles warranty.
While Lexus still 10 years 150k miles warranty.
Sort of like 1999 when the Nikon D1 had 2.7 MP sensors.
Today, Nikon mirrorless full frame cameras have 46 MP sensors.
In 5 to 10 years' time, EV range will build up considerably.
Just hang onto your S Class for now...

Are there RZ battery issues? I don’t think so. Obviously Toyota will make sure they are reliable. They still think like a legacy and it’s worked.
If you want different thinking the Lucid is for you.

I try to stay out of a Walmart whenever humanly possible.

BMW is doing the smart thing here and putting a bigger battery in their vehicles specifically for the US because they realize adoption here is tied to range. A battery being bigger doesn't make it less reliable, Lexus is just selling us that line to try to get us to ignore their laziness.

The thing is, all these EVs get better batteries every couple of years as the tech improves. Wouldn’t be surprised this gets 350 range around this refresh. RZ is a case in point.
You miss my point lol. It needs to have it now! The competitors have it now! When they have 350 miles of range 4 years from now BMWs will have 500 miles and it'll charge in 7 minutes. I want to see Lexus lead."Its good enough" is pathetic.
maybe it would do you some good.
of course the german auto industry is in huge trouble and the country is running out of people to build anything, lol.
The bottom line is as usual the Germans are on another planet than Lexus when it comes to performance and innovation, Lexus rests on the tired old "but we're reliable!" excuse. Buying the latest brand new Lexus model is like buying something designed a decade before the brand new latest German vehicle. Thats not going to change. In 10 years Lexus will be where the Germans are now but they will be again on another planet so far ahead its ridiculous. Just doesn't do it for me so the Germans will continue to get my business.
I rather have a normal interior with a round steering wheel than 100miles more of range. The interior would bother me daily while the range might be inconvenient a few times per year.
