When the range indicator goes down from a numeric range and says "low fuel", get your *** to the gas station ASAP at least in an LS430. You've got a gallon or less left by that point.

Do cars really have "reserve" tanks? Or is that a myth? I know on some Mercedes there is an "R" on the gauge (not mine)... But a back up fuel tank seems silly to me.
None of my Lexus cars are/were accurate, not any of the LS430s or the LS460 or any of the RX300s. You can zero out the DTE and still get anywhere from 20-40 miles, German cars shut off at 0 miles range remaining

i've never run out of gas. and now i can't #nogascars, lol.
Sucks not to be able to rapidly and universally reload though, also have to suffer on trips if you tend to do those.

My LS430 is accurate down to about 5 miles.

The LX570 is ridiculous, in the opposite way. The light comes on with 5 gallons left!!!! That has to be for off roading to scare people to plan accordingly.

Reserve/R means you are cutting into the fuel tank capacity they don't intend for you to normally use. If you run it into that range the car at have issues in high G maneuvers maintaining full fuel pressure in older or non performance cars as well.

My Passat says in the manual that below 1/4 tank that it may not sustain full pressure during max maneuvering, the S4 however uses a totally different system to avoid that. My newer cars have 3 in tank pumps and a baffle to be able to run down to under 1/8 tank and still sustain full G turns under max power.

I didn’t mean a literal reserve tank, I meant “reserve” as in the gauge says zero but will still have a gallon or two left in the tank so dumbasses like me who ignore the gauge/DTE/warnings don’t run out of gas.

Oh yeah. You were before me with BETTER ones, but I never had a car without leather, sunroof, etc etc. You drove Lexuses before I did, and I bought the old man car LS430 at age 30.

Boomer Mom even said it was an old man's car when I bought it, not in a bad way... just an observation. Then she took a ride in it and was like "this can't be real how nice this car is/rides..."

Right.. but I have heard of people literally thinking there is a reserve tank. I wasn't responding just to you necessarily.

Oh we know-- Toyota=garbage, VW/Audi= literal perfection. I've only driven the LS430 for 14 years, I think I know how low I can take it lol.

Thats not the point, in an LS you have more range once it says zero. In a German car the car shuts off because it actually at zero

Ive owned more LS430s than you have as well so I'm also quite experienced with them plus my 6 other Lexuses that I've owned/own

Yep, exactly. My first new car I bought was my ES300 when I was 22 lol. My first LS I bought I was 33!

I'm the same way about paying for gas too. I HATE overpaying for gas because of where I am etc

Yes and you constantly say they are junk cars when you're just plain wrong.

For the record it never says "zero" (shouldn't you know that?) it says "low fuel" and drops from a numeric range, usually around the 20mpg mark.

Good point! They stopped doing it that way with the LS460, but you're right the 400 and 430 say "LOW FUEL". Then that light comes on under the E.

I have never said they are junk, just that they aren't the best of their era and FOR THE EFFORT INVOLVED keeping one perfect I would rather invest that effort into better cars.
