General Car Conversation - 2026 Part 1
Had the motorcycle track day season opener scheduled for this past Monday at NJMP. My sport bike was stolen two weeks ago, and I haven't had a chance to get a new one yet, so a bunch of my friends offered me to borrow theirs, but I didn't want to risk crashing someone else's bike, decided to take my 800lb BMW K1600 tourer instead. Definitely not a bike for track riding and dragging your knee, and it grabbed a ton of attention and I got a bunch of high fives. It is basically like an Escalade showing up to race a bunch of Corvettes at the track, but at least I got my stereo systems, full fairings, butt and hand warmers, top case, side cases, and passenger armrests, lol.

The event organizers split us in four skill groups, rookie, novice, intermediate and expert - I usually ride intermediate, but with the K1600 I asked them to put me in the novice group. Took it easy, with a very limited lean angle and regular road tires, dropping this bike is pretty much guaranteed to be a very expensive total loss. Still managed to make a few passes of slower riders. Was a blast, but I came home completely exhausted from handling the heavy beast for 8 sessions that we've had. I need to get a replacement sport bike ASAP, I have another track day coming up, I don't want to push my luck.
Here is a clip of one of the shorter sessions. The way thing thing pulls to 120 on a straightaway is so freaking amazing.

Some of the posts on the last few pages had me nostalgic for my E63. Had to pull up some oldies but goodies on youtube.
On the emissions issues mentioned, anything reasonably modern isn't putting out much from the exhaust. Tire particulate is actually the biggest "emission", and it's why for the first few years of production Teslas were often the worst polluting cars of the era, along with other brands who followed suit with similarly heavy EVs. Plenty of research articles on it, but humans are gonna human and jump headlong into emerging tech with little care for the big picture.
Reality is if we all cared about fixing things we'd focus on population hubs where driving isn't a daily necessity. All the regs in the world aren't doing much when we have to drive to get to anywhere essential and have to do so in directly or indirectly fossil-fueled vehicles grinding artificial, chemically-treated rubber into fine mist that's in our air, water, soil, food, and now blood.
I enjoy having a fun car to drive but it's idiotic how much I have to drive it.

I forgot Bentley and Maybach still remain. Usually that space is preoccupied with RR....

the one in the vid reminds me of this E55 clip with C63 mufflers
Seems to be!!! The headliner needs work (no big deal) but the paint looks good.
Regardless, if it needed a paint job it wouldn't cost that much bc there's not that much area. But I think a good polish would make it good as new.
But yes it has the chrome trim on the windows.
He said he can offer insured shipping, or I might just rent a trailer and tow it back with the LX.
I don't think it would fit, even in the Yukon.

@Och Why are the mirrors taped up?
This was last year at the Pittsburgh raceway, I am so glad I got to experience it right before they abruptly permanently shut down, and a god damn data center is going in its place. Had all the lights on my bike taped up, mirrors removed.
