General Car Conversation - 2026 Part 1
Youp, they're ugly, frumpy, not fun to own or drive. I get it.
oh boy lol. I think I will actually Turo a car we are considering while its in the shop.
Yup, manufacturers just need to make the leap totally into the 48v setup and do away with the frankenstein 1/2 48 and 1/2 12v thing.

For ME, it's not a particular van, it's vans in general as we started to grow our family. They were not aesthetically pleasing to my eyes and with other choices on the market we opted to get something else.
OF COURSE they serve their purpose for functionality, and practicality. We just didn't want one.
We had a 4Runner, then a Sequoia, then three 3rd-row MDXs that took us through the kiddos.
I will say that growing up we had a conversion van and went on lots of road trips -- those were fun times as a kid.

There was no Sequoia or MDX when I was a kid. Station wagons and minivans were what were popular, like in the movie thread I posted about the Electra station wagon in Adventures in Babysitting.

(Yes I know we need a transformer but these glow)
Oh I hear ya but there weren't really SUVs cut out for it back then in my day. Kind of hard to believe.

Back then Minivans were the awesome new thing. My parents were THRILLED to get that Aerostar, that was THE cool family vehicle. That shifted in the mid 90s but between 1985-1992/1993 there was no shame in a minivan.
Yes, we’re thankful we started having kids after SUVs came out and gave us choices

The Silhouette had a 3800 badge like I said lol.
ha ha. 90s Ford Windstar. was my parents. vehicle i got to drive occasionally after getting my license. packed with trouble makers, we tore up a soccer field. few weeks later the engine died. luckily, and thankfully, for my parents, the vehicle was still under warranty and did not have to pay for my bad behavior. forgot about that vehicle.
The 4.0L was available later ours had the 3L V6. I can't imagine shoehorning the 4.0 in there, my Dad and I changed the spark plugs in it and that was a BITCH to do. It had a cover under the dash to access the back side of the engine lol
I saw one that had a manual trans in it. Ford should have shoved a 2.2 SVO mustang plant in there.
Yep, same platform, also shared with the Bronco II. Just like the Astro/Safari of that era were the same platform as the S10/Sonoma and the Blazer/Jimmy. I saw a couple of folks transplant the AWD system from an Astro van into a Jimmy to make a Typhony. I forget the powerplant they used, probably a SBC.
