General Car Conversation 2025 - Part 2
Except that you haven't driven the cars we have owned for years and they don't exhibit the behavior you describe that you don't like. So your opinion is based totally on your own preconceived notions and not on any experience at all, and you're trying to argue with us about cars we own and that you've never driven. You've lived in America too long lol. You do not know more than we do about how our cars drive because you watched a YouTube video...
Now we're moving the goalposts. The TX drives almost exactly like my Pacifica, its a Toyota PHEV powertrain its nothing special. The TX being ugly or not is not what we're talking about.
I get it, its not an EV but like we said before it doesn't exhibit the behavior you are describing and actually its usually pretty hard to tell if the engine is running or not in city driving. I've owned a lot of great cars I think you would agree, this hybrid Pacifica is one of my all time favorites out of all the cars I have had. I didn’t want any hybrids either but this car changed my mind in general.
I would rather have an EV, but there isn’t any EV out there that is comparable to a PHEV minivan. Gotta have 400 miles of range to consider one for a family vehicle for sure, and anything that has the space and has that range is twice as expensive.
that tx starts at 77k s580e starts at 128k. Hardly mainstream. Aside i saw a tx at a light yesterday. Hideous car with awful proportions.
i’m sure it’s a nice smooth minivan tommost people for normal driving. I just no longer want the sound of ice engines at all, especially when they’re woken up while already driving, lol.

Currently at my home country which I haven't been in about 2 years. Wow how things have changed in regards to the automotive market. This is a Honda and Toyota country and the rise of Chinese cars here the past 2 years is shocking. Bill boards and signs all over for Chinese brands. Many new cars on the road are Chinese. Didn't expect the Chinese brands rise would be this quick.
I thought the people here would be really skeptic but I guess their worries are put at ease when they offer an 8 year, 75k miles warranty with 3 year free service. This is a country where over 90 percent of the population won't come close to 75k miles in 8 years.
The popular Chinese brands here are lesser known ones Haval and Jetour. I see some MGs and BYDs as well. I would guestimate from all the modern cars on the road (no older than 3 years) about 25% are Chinese brands.

Have you ridden in one yet, are they cheaply made inside? Are the seats comfortable? How about the quality of the paint, tires, windshield, lights, etc.?
I would advocate for harsh penalties for red light runners. It’s rampant here since defund the police. I’ve seen people do it right in front of cops and the cops do nothing. I see near collisions frequently and I had a close call last week. It needs to stop.
Right on red is also a problem. People seem compelled to turn right on red even if it isn’t clear of right of way traffic.Every time I make a left or a u turn, the person coming from the other direction and making a right always pulls out in front of me (and anyone else).

I hope that doesn't happen here.
Drizzle them in, maybe ok.
But I hope they don't flood the market with them. 🫸🫷
Paint and exterior build quality looks great. I haven't been in one yet but I plan to go to the Jetour dealership since it's close by.
I'm assuming resale will be terrible but with the cost being almost 40% less offsets that.

To be honest they all look great (haven't been in exterior). But many of them look like luxury vehicles. Some look very similar to western vehicles (clones) but does enough where you're not fooled thinking it's the other. To be honest some of the "clones" look better than the western vehicle counterpart lol.
Back in early 2000s Hyundai / Kia got the rep of being junk which was fair. Seems like locals have gotten over that. The Kia Seltos and Hyundai Tucson are popular here as well.
I've observed similar occurrence in Costa Rica. Toyota seemed to be the popular choice a decade ago. Now when I go it's Chinese and Korean vehicles. Rented a Hyundai Staria which I actually enjoyed when compared to a Ford Transit.
These non first world countries, I can't see how the legacy automakers compete unless the Chinese cars get the rep of being junk.
no doubt you guys have lots of hybrid experience and like or are at least ok with them and that’s ok for you. This is not an ‘absolute’ thing. I DON’T LIKE OR WANT ANY HYBRIDS. Clear enough?
i don’t recall him ever ‘complaining’ about anything in his videos… he lets the drive/sounds speak for themselves.
not about wrong. these are opinions.

) then like SW17LS says move the goal post and shoot down the looks of the TX. I personally am starting to see TX more. Heck my cousin has owned for over a year.Since you now have such a dislike for gas engines, do you still have your LC? 🤨

The driverless Tesla did just that on the video in another thread. Made right turn on red when it wasn’t supposed to. But some people here stated the driverless Tesla did an amazing job 🙄
Yep they cost a lot less. For example the Jetour X50 which seems to be equivalent to a Corolla Cross is 29k vs 46K for the cross. Then the Toyota warranty is 3 years 60k vs Jetour 8 years 75k. As mentioned previously, the years matter a lot more here since the country is small.

Wow -- that is quite a difference in price and I understand why the years of warranty means a lot to folks.
For some reason I don't think they'll hit US shores for a while... At least I hope not !!

They won't cause of tariffs so the US market has nothing to worry about unless Chinese manufacturers find a way around that. Can't see how the Chinese manufacturers can keep prices this low either.

you hate self-driving technology and make it known why you think that. so let's call it a draw.

as someone posted, only thing holding them back is tariffs.
Because it did do an amazing job. As it has every time I've been driven by it. The compute required to do what it did is absolutely immense, and that it's available in vehicles priced where these cars are priced is a cause for celebration, not derision. These vehicles operate on a continuous improvement model, they learn from mistakes, and they will get better and better over time. The standard of human driving, it seems to me, is however continually on the decline.
resistance is futile.

I don’t argue with you about how your cars drive, and I’ve actually driven them
