oh in that case it's absolutely past its prime... seriously?!? the new one just looks cheap and gimmicky and it definitely isn't growing on me the more i see, whereas the G30 gen looked great 10 years ago and is still classy perfection now
there's not a single infiniti Q50 driver who wouldn't really rather be in a 540i
I'm not denying the G30 is a much better looking car, but the traditional sedan look is not "past its prime".

if the G30 is much better looking doesn't that literally mean the 5 series is past its prime lol... the current one is definitely the least traditional sedan looking of any 5 series
talking about the industry as a whole then i think the traditional sedan look is well past its prime

I think you're misunderstanding what he meant lol. He dislikes the traditional long hood look of a sedan and wants cars to look like a Model Y. I think he would also say the G30 outdated looking. I would disagree. I think short sloping hood "pod" like vehicles are not attractive.
Well, the fact that those Q50 drivers are voting with their wallet shows that they may not agree with you.
Yeah but the Q50 was handily outsold in the US by the 5 series for its entire existence, despite being cheaper. Over its lifetime, they sold 291,000 Q50's in the US. During the same period, 428,000 5 series were sold here.
I can't imagine a lot of people, having the funds to buy either one, would have picked the Q50 over the 540i.

Part of the problem with Infiniti is just the current lack of dealerships. As of the end of October, there were only 197 Infiniti dealerships across the U.S. while BMW had the better part of twice as much....350. You are (probably) more likely to purchase or lease something, especially if it is not done on-line, if you don't have to drive all the way across the state to reach a dealer.
And, yes, lack of dealerships in the U.S. can be a serious problem. We saw, years ago, what it did to Daihatsu, Daewoo, Suzuki, Isuzu, and the problems it is currently causing Mitsubishi, although, unlike them, Mitsubushi has still managed to keep one finger in the door here in the U.S.

Infiniti is reducing the number of dealers and combining them with Nissan. They only have 2 models, hard to support an entire dealer network with 2 models.

I owned my G30 for 5 years and never got tired of the styling both inside and out. To my eye it aged very well and neither my wife or I got tired of looking at it. We sold it in April and still miss it.

Well, that's true to an extent. Daihatsu tried it with just the Charade and Rocky, and that didn't last very long. Tesla, though, was able to sell just the original Model S out of their original lineup of shops for a while until later models were introduced, although, of course, they have company-owned stores without the complexties of private-buisness franchises.

Infiniti dealerships have actually been struggling to stay afloat, because the products have been so uncompetitive for the past few years. They’ve been crying out for updated infiniti models.

It seems like on reddit the answer to "how do I make my Q50 better/faster/etc" is always just "buy an M340i"
Infiniti simply isn't competitive with BMW at all. They are outdated, ugly, have a bad reputation because of the G37's popularity with idiots, their transmissions are slow as hell, and the VR30DDTT engine likes to eat turbos.
