It will take me another 10 years to warm to each new BMW model.

I like the BMW X5 but I will still rant. Lol 😂

Mannnny people want it for our V8 in our trucks, that's a huggggge reason lol.

It's not the fastest rig on the block (it's not slow either) but the 5.7 is indestructible and it is very well matched to the vehicle. I notice that after getting out of the GMC and into the LX. LX is not nearly as fast but just driving around, the powertrain is effortless and you barely notice it.
I’ll keep an eye on it and see where it lands.

TRD Jon put a magnuson SC on his 2.5. gen TRD Pro and his RHO Ram (hurricane turbo 6) smoked his SC’d 5.7. One thing he didn’t do, he didn’t turn on tow haul mode which makes a significant difference on the 2014-2021 models. His wife was behind the wheel of the RHO Ram and I don’t think she brake boosted it off the line which would’ve made a big difference as well.

5.7 was so strong the S/C didn't void the factory warranty when Toyota easily could have said screw off. That's the kind of engine I want in my truck, I don't care about the S/C... not in an LX.

He lost because he brought a Toyota trans to a ZF8 fight lol! Plus the power difference is very real if the 5.7 isn't tuned correctly on top of the trans just absolutely sucking power out.

Toyotas have hellish driveline losses, my 460 only has 300-310 hp make it to the ground vs my friends 4.2 A8 that on paper has 10 less HP putting 345 to the ground.

Toyota SC kit often blew out ringlands....included tune was not optimal

The Germans and the Japanese also advertise their power differently. The Germans are all about the under-promise over-deliver philosophy. The Japanese don't do that.

Also very true, the Germans rate power based on "average you will see when WOT after 1st gear" according to some people I spoke to overseas. Aka 400 German HP means you will be seeing 440 at some points at high RPM and dipping to 380 after a shift vs 400 Japanese HP being 400 for a split second in best case scenarios.

The RHO shifts sounded very similar to the Supra shifts.

Wonder if BMW for example advertises their hp what it puts to the ground where everyone else is advertising crank hp.

Also watched video of best and worse BMW engines of all time.
B58 was rated best ever made to date.
2nd best N52 (3.0 NA inline 6)
3rd best M54 (3.0 NA inline 6)
4th best the S54 (3.2 inline 6)

N54, N47/N57, N63 (nicknamed the money pit) were the top 3 worst BMW engines

Your thoughts? I’m new to BMW.

+1 for thoughts on the n63, the g30 m550i is kind of growing on me, despite most of the examples that I've seen up close (including on a lift) being of the "skimp on tires, cut the cats and put a pops and bangs tune on it" variety. Wasn't enough that somebody nearby has also done this to a manual e60 550i...

Anyways, looking mostly at 540i's since they can be had in RWD and have a sane engine, but the m550is have been surprisingly alright with their engines - turbo wastegates has been the worst so far, but it's a hot V, so it wasn't really noteworthy, especially compared to that engine's reputation. Would not looking to do tunes, cat deletes or anything obnoxious. Night vision might be a rare unicorn, even though it's only on the central display (can't bring myself to get an Audi, sorry).

Right but what do warranties and insurance companies love to do and find any way possible to do it?

Deny claims. Just saying, the 5.7 was so robust the S/C didn't void the warranty. That's impressive.

BTW I'm fighting with my insurance over getting my SL bumpers fixed. They're trying to weasel out of it saying it's wear and tear... I don't think so. I'll take this one to the end.

A car wash did it. When they tried to pull that wear and tear line I told them I've owned the car for 3 years and never had an issue... Why would I just randomly file a claim 3 years later?

Then she started to get sorta rude. So I said "I bought this car 3 years ago, if this is such a big deal why didn't you come down and inspect the car to let me know what you WON'T insure when I bought it."

I got no answer from that one, she didn't know what to say lol. I hate insurance companies. I'm gonna have the bodyshop fight it as hard as they can. I also told the woman "You're deny this claim from email pictures that some azzhole in Phoenix or Atlanta (or wherever) took one look at? I don't think so. Talk to the body shop who actually has the car in their possession rather than taking one glance at an email photo."

It sounds like the Supra because it's the same trans, dodge gave up on their 6XRFE/Nag1/2 garbage in 2013 and rolled out ZF to everything

N62 should be added as well, yes the N/S63s are amazingly profitable engines for me!

List is accurate as far as I've seen

Those wastegate actuators are $612 each and will fail in as soon as 45k miles, you will also loose a few coolant pipes and seals in the interior of the V like clockwork. I just did one again at 71k miles
