The real issue I have seen is that BMW cases are just too small and weak for the output and weight of the vehicles they are in, I have replaced many BMW transfercases and I am convinced they truly just slap their idea of AWD onto the cars. Mercedes doesn't undersize like that nor have I seen real issues with their non-AMG systems, Audi obviously has no issues as they are an AWD design from the ground up. The only Audi I have seen with issues have been Q7s/Cayennes because they use a traditional system from borg warner that is progressive apply system like the AMGs and the chain sometimes slips inside as causes damage.
Haldex isn't AWD so I don't even count anything to do with those systems. Junk.
At one point they tried to say that the factory put the wrong fluid in and had people doing a fluid change first before they replaced the transfer case but for most it still continues. A ton of people with X7's and X5's are having the issue and BMW is trying to do everything to put the blame on owners using different tires, etc. vs. acknowledging the real problem and owners out of warranty are getting screwed in the process. They need to replace the transfer case with something that doesn't fail vs. putting in the same old transfer case that will eventually fail.

Wild card, I thought about just purchasing a new set of wheels and tires. I’ve done that a lot whenever I need to replace the factory tires.
I should have mentioned it isn't easy to find the tires on Tirerack because of the different speed ratings so you have to look them up separately. For my old X7 I bought aftermarket wheels so I put the summer tires on my Vossen wheels and winter squared tires on my factory 22" wheels. My friend who I sold my X7 to had the transfer case issue at 36k miles and the dealer had him buy new winter run flat tires in factory sizes to put on the stock wheels before they warrantied the fluid change. So ridiculous, there is no way running the same diameter tires would affect the transfer case when factory squared 21" and staggered 22" wheels/tires all have the same transfer case issue.
Handling and ride quality of that Corvette is horrendous. And I've had the displeasure of repairing a wiring harness in the interior, I HATE this car so much everything is so cramped and cheaply made. #3 is a Dodge Charger 1970-ish. #1 is an even bigger POS than the Corvette.
oh just to be clear my fondness of that corvette has nothing to do with any expectations of quality or an enjoyable driving experience, i just love the look and how it comes from that late 60s period where i feel there was actually a lot to be excited about with respect to american culture... i mean you could've taken that car to see the doors, hendrix, or even some early led zeppelin!
All those old cars are something to look at but stink at everything unless you're going straight. When you watch the car mod shows (Bitchin Rides, Iron Resurrection, etc) they always change everything underneath the skin. You know, to bring it up-to-date.
was just in toronto area (staying in mississauga) and at night (ALL NIGHT) you could hear cars street racing. cops apparently can't be bothered or aren't allow to do anything.
traffic in the whole area is a nightmare. thankfully i didn't have a car and was either in someone else's car or took the train/subway.
taking the train to downtown shows ENDLESS high rises along the track...
They look like the pictures of high rise apartments in China I see all the time.

Wow hopefully BMW makes some changes quick. Otherwise it’s a pretty special vehicle. Again the shop foreman advised me the B58 is his favorite engine as it’s the most reliable one out of the bunch but the m50/m60 is more fun. With that being said that’s what we are leaning towards when it comes time to get another one. Need to refrain from test driving the M60i🫣 It’s not perfect but not sure what other 3 rows out there that checks all the boxes.
It will be interesting to get your report on the new Conti's. I liked them on our 5 Series. Good all arounders. Are you getting them at the dealership?

Getting them from tire rack. Dealership said they didn’t have any in stock. Said they sell fairly quick soon as they get them.
Yes the wheels are staggered. Factory spec tires are 275/40 & 315/35 and I was looking or hoping to run 275/40 or 285/40 all around like I saw others on BMW forum.
the tires are different widths because the RIMS are different widths. no way i’d want a 285 tire on rim designed to have a 315 on it!
your only way to have the same tires all around would be to get new rims as well, with proper offsets to make them ‘sit right’ all around.
if you did that you might have more wheelspin at the back, lol but the lighter/narrower rims would likely make the car more nimble.

they’re all junk now. no thanks. and unsafe. and uncomfortable. and unreliable. apart from that they’re great.

285 on a 315 rim is usually okay, just check the acceptable rim width for each tire before buying

Agreed, I’m dumb but not dumb enough to put a tire not in spec with the proper rim width and it is pretty easy on Tire Rack to figure out if a tire size fits the rim width. A 285 fits on the rear wheel of the X7 and easily within spec.

According to tire track an optional size was 275/40/22. Discount tire showed even more size options.

and no matter what i wouldn't put a 285 on a 315 rim. probably even easier to curb that setup too.
285s fit just fine from what I’ve read. No worries. I went with the stock spec 275/40/22 & 315/35/22 but with a different tire brand so there won’t be any issues with warranty if they arise.
Diameter on the 275/40/22 and 315/35/22 is 30.7
Diameter on 285/40/22 is 31.0
Didn't feel like driving my truck so I picked then up in the RAV4 then transported them to the tire shop in the beater Prius😆
