I don't think many people want the big clunky column shifter back, I know I don't. I prefer console shifters in general, but the shifter they use on Mercedes products and the similar type IMO are the best implementation of E shifters

Trust me, many customers loved it. I'm not saying all, but trust me if they'd offer it as a N/C option the take rate would be big.

The last gen Escalade they were about to ax it but didn't because of customer response. This may not be everyone's favorite but it is mine, this is a truck after all. Those shifters feel so good to slam around, it's hard to explain. GM always did column shifters right in trucks.

You're not into truck trucks.. it makes sense you aren't crazy about it.

I'm not a fan of column shifters either. It's not 1980. They always felt cumbersome to me.

To put it in another way, I vastly preferred the column shifter on the junk beater 2003 Yukon I used to have compared to what's on the 2022.

But, the buttons are high quality at least and you do learn fast.

I'm with AJT here, I like column shifters if I'm going to have a truck with an automatic.

And they can make them quite nice (as well as nice to use in general). The Escalade had a great looking column shifter.

So apparently the replacement 6.2 in my buddy's Silverado uses a quart of oil every 2k miles. Yikes.

I don't mind shifters like that at all, they are basically standard for trucks. The one I like most is the rotary dial type in rams and rovers, feels nice to use and takes up little space. The rover version is also powered, still provides a tactile shift control system unlike touch buttons etc.

The issue that may occur with a large lever shifter like those is that they reduce space for things like ACC stalks and wheel mounted manual shifters. Ever since I got manual cars I found myself using manual mode a lot more on the ZF cars, so much so I added a set of flying spur shifters to the silver D4

Column shifter + bench seat = the best.

I'm sure they did, I would accept a quart or so over 5k miles if the engine has a pair of turbos/mandatory leak point.

On any NA engine I don't like to see more than 1/4 quart per 5 total capacity not including fuel contamination
