Speaking of your Audi V8, here is a Motorweek 1993 V8 luxury sedan comparo. Without question my pick would be the 400E followed by the Lexus. That BMW probably looks the best but was a piece of junk.
Speaking of lovely interiors, this W140 lacks tech but is just stunning. And you know it was built like a brick shythouse.
And like I was saying earlier about the way it was in the old days with S Classes, this could be an S320 or an S500. The only difference was that the 320s had different wood. You got it all, even in the cheapest model... (Not cheap actually, I believe 1997 S320 was close to 70k.) Love the materials of that era, my SL has that same thick *** carpet and nice webbed map holder thingy.

Couldn’t get that to load, I’ll check later. Probably quite simliar but IIRC the ‘93 got a 4.2 vs. the 3.6 V8.
Mine is not the standard line production auto car. It’s a homologation model to qualify the car for racing, they made a few thou (only a very few made it to the US) in 1990 and 1991 so it could race in the DTM. Hotter cam, sport seats, Getrag 5-speed, bit different.
After homologating it, Audi ran it in the DTM and won both years, beating even 190s and 3-series. It was glorious to watch a luxury car win races.

Oh it was funny as hell, to this day it triggers the 3 series fanboys that a boat won. When I joined of the cult of VAG I started looking into the racing history and lord does Audi have weird wins....

Speaking of that, funny story.
I got to sit in one of Michele Mouton’s Quattro Group B cars - years later, and when the cars were notoriously “missing.” . I don’t think it was the actual Pike’s Peak car, but the other one (they had two then). My mechanic in NYC, Bruno Kreibich, was one of the chief tuners for the race team then (the rally days), before he opened his own shop in Queens, NY. He was a successful rally driver in his own right, too. Anyway, when Audi pulled out of the us after the “unintended acceleration” bullshit, they left a lot of unpaid bills, including to Bruno and tuner Joe Hoppen, the two guys mainly responsible for the tuning of the cars. So joe and Bruno “kept” the cars. Bruno kept his hidden in a container unit in Queens, and I think Joe kept his in Miami - which I think was the Pikes Peak car. Some time in the late 90s, Bruno showed me the one he kept, after we got friendly (I was a customer of his because I could not work on my own car living in Manhattan). At some point much later, Audi wanted the cars back and Bruno and Joe “ransomed” them back to Audi for 20 years of unpaid debts.
I recall Bruno’s car had red trim, so I think it was the car Walter Rohrl used to win in ‘87. This is the yellow-trimmed car Michele Mouton very famously used to win in ‘85. I don’t know if any women have won since her; it was a hell of a thing in ‘85 (she had won her class and been 2nd overall in ‘84, so it was not a total shock when she won in ‘85).

Neat story! Thanks for sharing. Let me try this again... The Audi tied two other cars for the second fastest 0-60 time. Like I said that BMW looks the best I think but it's the biggest POS there, maybe even worse than that Cadillac... Does anyone else like that E32 7 series better than the E38, because I do. I think it has aged better? E38 is a panty dropper and always will be, but I do like this one even more. I like how it's less rounded than the E38, more wedge-shaped.

This is spot-on.
I’ve always thought the E32 was the best looking 7 series ever. I loved it when it was contemporary when I was a kid. My dad managed sales at a BMW dealership in the late 80s and brought some of those cars home regularly, even L6 and L7 models. Fond memories - and those “L” models were always a favorite of mine - they are pretty cool inside.
What I really wanted instead of an Audi, was an E32 740i with a stick shift and awd. Then lower it just a hair, and stiffen it with Bilstein coils and Boge Turbo Gas shocks. Would have been a pheonomenal car. But even when I was young, I was smart enough to never buy a German car with a ZF automatic transmission from the 80s or 90s. ZF boxes back then just sucked, and then as a bonus, they had the added feature of randomly self-disassembling. They continued to, until the 6HP generation and later. The 6HP managed to finally claim the vaunted “Not Much Worse Than a 4L60E” crown that ZF so coveted, and spent decades chasing.
That Cutlass reminded me. I’ve posted before that the owner of the office building one of my offices is in is a car collector. The lower level of the garage is filled with his collection and he has a spot in the lobby where he rotates out a car on display. The car this month is an interesting choice of Cutlass.

I remember newer Cutlass convertibles. My mom's friend had a red one of those, but the coupe. It wasn't loaded out but was a nice car.
That’s pretty amusing, both that choice and his rotating display practice.
Similarly, if anyone is ever passing on I-5 through Tacoma, WA, Griot’s Garage is not far at all off the interstate, near the big SR-16 intersection. They occupy a very old Coca Cola bottling plant, and have a product showroom. Off the side they have a rotating collection of quite exotic supercars, race cars, exotics. Pretty interesting.
