Yep. That is one reason I always allow customers to bring oil since some people simply do not trust anyone to order the correct stuff. A lot of the cars I see are owned by enthusiasts so they can get very picky about exact brand and type
People who don't care get bulk full synth, I don't carry blend or conventional at all.
Thats a good policy. I assume even your bulk synthetic, it is of the correct weight depending on your recommendation or owners choice as any good shop does?
In this case, dealer went unilaterally and said we know best, cause thats all we have got, your engine oil labels and manual be damned.
Im of the opinion, if you pay for a oil service at a premium service center like a Lexus dealership, i hope they read the damn oil label on the motor oil cap and engine bay. If they cant do that, whats the difference between them and an iffy lube place; the snack bar and wifi speed?
The dealership failed to meet basic expectations of a service.
........oh it's way worse than that many times. The literal only reason I know how to work on cars at all is because a dealer screwed up one time and I went into a rage at the incompetence. I resolved to never need one again.

Yes I carry 0w-16, 0w-20, 5w-30, 5w-40, and a box of diesel T6 5w-40 so I don't need to ever call in oil for normal cars/customers. I also technially have M1 ESP 0w-40 and 0w-30 on the shelves but it's really only used in my own cars and friends cars since that's our standard oil
The only car that gets "random" is my old Jeep, when customers bring their own many do not want to keep .4-1.2 quarts remaining so they leave it with me. I just throw 6.5 of the resulting blend into it combined with random filters I get from oil change specials buying the ESP oil

The IS500 isn't a high power density engine. It's not even 500hp and very low torque (actual parts strain and oil HTHS load unless you are high rpm, it's also not a high rpm engine) spread across a lot og
Uh, yes it is. The redline is 7300RPM. And as you point out it does need to be revved, as it isn't a torque monster.
I mean it's not an F1 motor but a V8 that screams to 7300, that's a pretty high revving engine

That is not a high redline. High redline is 8-9k and the euros where there back in 2005, my 06 S4 does 7500 and the RS4 is 8250, BMW V10 is 8250, S65 is 8400. All of these are 20 years older
7300 is modern 4 cyl numbers and nothing at all like the 10k rpm stuff you are seeing in euro V8s, heck the ford 5.0 is higher than the UR. If we are being fair it has a medium redline in modern context, 20 years ago sure it was highish
The 2UR is a wonderful sounding, very well made engine but it's not pushing any limits.

The answer is there really is no difference, paying the dealer their crazy prices is insane. The techs don't even change oil, they have very low skilled lube techs.
The question is though, what can the dealer do about it now? Not much. Just gotta move forward

All I will say about dealers is that this TSB exists....
Got the S580 back. They removed and greased the cross bar supports and all the subframe bolts and that seems to have solved by rattle/looseness. We'll see. Dealer shop foreman seemed genuinely concerned about finding out the cause which is good.
On the way to pick it up this happened to the loaner LOL. Lucky I have a iphone speedometer app...

Blackout or full systems failure? You still have sound for turn signals etc?

Last person who borrowed that car probably spilled a drink down the dash. Lol
Then again, the germans make some of the best electronics but they over engineer and thus make a lot of failure points.
He said that there is a software update for those GLCs that solves that lol. Super.
In other news, I think my rattle is still there but is much better. Pouring rain out there and when its wet is when you really hear it. I'll keep driving it over the next week and take it back if its still there.
