Saw that Mercedes is going to go to a flat-plane crank V8 in the C63. I think that's a shame, because a flat-plane V8 doesn't really fit the character of the AMG cars. These are supposed to be German muscle cars. All grunt and rumble. Instead it'll be a high revving buzzer that just doesn't sound as good or have as much low end response(same reason why a Mustang GT would be more pleasant to daily than a GT350).
They plan to use augmented(electronic) sound in the cabin to make it feel like a classic V8.

I have no doubt it's going to use a hybrid system to "fill in" the low end and they will claim it's the same as a massive supercharged crossplane V8......probably turbo as well so you don't even get that insane NA flat plane surge
This is one of the reasons I've lost interest in modern engines. In the last two years the best new engines I've experienced are the M3 and M4 Comp, and the M430i. Most everything else is boosted and hybrid. I also like the Coyote, but not much else past 2020

agreed, and even though it's at a slightly different price point and relevance to us lol i feel the same way about the agera vs jesko
the flat plane V8 is essentially two I4s mated to a common crankshaft so i'm sure it was just easier and cheaper to switch their current engine to a V8 by making it flat plane, and then they get to say they "have a V8" again
on a slightly different note, would it be so difficult to make it a cross plane I4 like a yamaha R1? that actually sounds like your more traditional V8 than a flat plane does
