I looked up the PHEV X5 last night but it doesn’t have a 3rd row although we don’t plan on using the 3rd row a lot but the times we need it will be helpful.

I know man. I’m pretty much putting my trust in Toyota on using a BMW engine and pretty much everything else BMW in the Supra. Happy wife happy life right so I guess there will be a X7 in the garage sooner than later. BMW owners on here know I’m pretty nervous about owning one. I’ve been picking their brain on their BMW experience. I feel more comfortable getting the xDrive40i over the V8 twin turbo found in the xDrive60i. It’s all new to me. Just this week I didn’t know the difference between the two. Also learning packages, options. Like I stated earlier BMW has never been on our radar. Take that back my wife mentioned it before we got the LX. I’ve been reading up on Bimmer post forum trying to learn.

@SW17LS The 48v mild hybrid has mixed reviews in the X7 community. My onIy other experience with a mild hybrid was in a rental Q5. I couldn’t tell what it did or what it’s supposed to do.
The X7 M60i now has the real deal S63 M engine vs what was in the pre-refresh M50i. I have read that they are more reliable than the N63 engine it replaced but I never had an issue with my X7 although I only had it for 3.5 years/36k miles so who knows if things would change the longer I owned it. I love having a V8 in an SUV but you can’t go wrong with the B58 in terms of reliability.

Seriously don’t be afraid of it. The lack of reliability is really overstated. The superiority of the product makes it well worth it.
This 1000% Peak irony is I have 3 W12 cars and combined they have cost me less in parts and repair time than my LS430 did. I got an immeasurably experience and it costs me less to top it off. The old S4 has also been very good and there is no Lexus equal to one, the W8 remains to be seen but I'm hoping it continues the trend of being good.

Also I recommend not getting the V8, they have always had higher chances significant issues and if you are still nervous just stay with the B58.

They say one thing BMW knows how to do is build an inline 6!! 530hp twin turbo V8 doesn’t sound too shabby!!

It's actually the S68 engine rather than the S63. This engine is also used in the XM, 760i, X5 m60i, X6 m60i, and now the M5.

BayeauxLex, those warranties can usually be purchased at significant discounts from retail. You can buy from other BMW dealers if your own dealer isn't budging. You don't need to pay retail...

More than likely we will. This will be my wife’s daily. B58 should be plenty. She did have it up to 90mph on the test drive.

I hope so. I like to look around on the BMW forum to see what prices others have paid for their warranty.

Correct, I was thinking the previous M5 but it's the new M5 that uses the same engine.

One of my BMWs (along with the Audi) live on the driveway, because both garage stalls are spoken for, not to make way for a tow truck.

That one was towed once ~12 years ago when it stalled and couldn't be restarted. This is one-third as many times as our RX350 had to be towed because the PCM had failed.

I've also had Toyota/Lexus vehicles towed multiple times.

As Striker stated, the inline 6 is going to your most reliable engine, and plenty for your wife. As long as you properly maintain it, which I know you do, you'll be fine 👍

Yep. If this doesn't say, "I need the B58 version", I don't know what does:

The 40i loaded to the hilt is the same price as the M60i with no options. Similarly optioned they're like $17k apart. $17k will buy a LOT of mods, and it'll be more reliable to boot.

I love V8s but in the X7 I would choose the B58.

Also keep in mind that BMW lies about their power numbers. It's rated at 375/384. So it's probably a bit over 400 in reality. It'll absolutely be faster than the LX was.
