General Car Conversation 2024 - part 2
Yeah people always look at you like you’re being a jerk and it’s like, I need to get gas too lol.
I think both setups have drawbacks and positives. Honestly to me it doesn’t make much difference

If you get your gas at Costco, at least near me, it doesn't really matter which side your cap is on. They have an arm attached to the hose that allows it to extend easily over your vehicle and hook up to the opposite side.
If engine is bad depending on what is bad I would rebuild/repair it, parts are common with first Gen W12s so no issues there other than the balance shaft system. I already purchased the last balance drive belt in the US for it though so I'm okay there. Intake is all metal so is fine, ring pack is shared with the W12s as is the chain system. Cam phaser blocks are the main issue point and there is a known workaround for the failure but I'm hoping it's fine.
Transmission is nothing special, just a ZF 5HP19 but if it goes I'm putting a manual trans in it out of a B7 A/S4 since stick makes a car way more fun!
Rarity is relative but all things considered it's not THAT rare, I won't be left totally screwed. I think.....it's the least rare W car I have so I'm lying to myself that it will be fine
End goal with this car is to have a W8 pattern car as my daily with a stick shift, I love how they sound and they are very nifty to me. Perfectly on brand with the Phaeton as well, it will make a great conversation starter when someone says "wow, rare!" and I can drop the line of "you should see the other ones!"

What the fk I pull into a Toyota dealer up here for an alignment and they could tell it was off… I walked up to the SA and he had a printout showing it. I was like “Excuse me did I miss something???” That’s pretty neat tech! They can measure it as you literally pull in.
a new Mercedes dealer near me uses cameras to record the car as it enters the service pull through.
saw this on FB

They work too, I went with the 460 one time and they said my caster is off. I told them I would be worried if it wasn't since I set the subframe forward as far as possible to increase it for steering stability.
