General Car Conversation 2024 - part 2
Big Altima Energy must be avoided at all costs. You have to try your best to stay away from it. The most dangerous Altimas for me are when I'm occasionally in Philadelphia and the ones that come up from Wilmington, DE. Bullet holes, cracked windshields, bumpers falling off etc. Standard Altima stuff.
Let’s not all pile on the Altima now! I see plenty of Maximas, Elantras, and sadly Infinitis in this condition as well.
Yeah. Fun fact of the day. GM spent $7 billion on the GM10 project (aka W-body)! And yes thats In 1980s dollars. This included the Grand Prix, Regal, Lumina, and Cutlass Supreme.
The coupes had shoddy build quality at launch in 1987. And sedans weren’t available until 1990! The Taurus/Sable went on sale in 1986 and was a much bigger success.
For context Toyota spent $1 billion developing the LS 400 during the same time period! Let that sink in.

I've said the same on here many times. Very early Saturday and Sunday morning is the only time I enjoy being on the road.
All that being said, don't let crappy drivers discourage you from getting an IS 500.

1) the used car lot bought the Altima at auction and had to register it to sell it.
2) the owner was forced to pay back registration to get the Altima out of the impound yard.
Not to worry, I won’t let crappy drivers prevent me from getting an IS500.

Why the switch back to Camry?
The Oldsmobile proved troublesome. Multiple warranty repairs. Then I was driving it one day and ran into some engine troubles. I barely got it home. It had to be picked up and towed in to the dealer for repairs and that tow/breakdown experience proved to be enough for my mom to say "screw it." They had their 95 Camry for over 10 years and had no issues with it.
The Lumina photo and the Olds discussion have taken me down Crappy Rental Car Memory Lane. We had Luminas. They were a paid upgrade for a car that is still not good. We had 3 luxury cars that would rotate through and we would have to go pick them up to allocate them for reservations. As I mentioned, the Cadillac Sedan DeVilles were great for fwd burnout contests. The third luxury car was an Olds 88. Awful car. Not luxurious at all and gutless to boot, yet people would smile and pay for the upgrade. lol
I suppose it was an upgrade over an Escort or Cavalier lol. Back then most rental cars were American.
I remember those cheesy enterprise commercials from the 90s and early 2000s. With the mystery car (we all knew it was a Malibu!) wrapped in a beige tarp driving down a winding road. What a silly marketing tactic.

And I bought the home warranty bc the stuff was getting old that came with the house. We bought a nice dishwasher and stove, etc.
And that’s what I mean, it was an expensive dishwasher. Not the most but definitely a higher end model.

I think the GM cars were better when it came to features, power, design, performance and other items. Without the Toyota reliability, the GM cars were far more appealing.

They have a reputation that's well earned. Bunch of reckless, low IQ, poor credit score degenerates who insist on antisocial behavior at any opportunity.
