General Car Conversation 2024 - part 2
Thats the issue I have seen a LOT with Mercedes, the interiors just do not hold up well if the owners aren't careful with them. I have a few poor GLKs that started out really nice but have been destroyed over the last 3-4 years.....
Makes me sad since they were very nice the first time I saw them/PPIed them and one is a diesel.

I've never checked one out in person, though.
I don't speak sub-V8 unless it's my work car, then an I6 is acceptable it a diesel of any cyl count.
Never had a V6 other than my Jag and I didn't have it long enough to form an opinion on it other than it sounded unusually good at high rpm for a 6

This is what the drivers seat of every used W212 looked like when I was looking.
Well looks like I can’t upload a pic! But every single one had a split in the seat bottom.
My grandmothers W204 also did the same thing with only 60,000. And the headliner was becoming unglued. Garage kept!
Unfortunately they didn’t use the most durable materials during this time period.

I don’t think they did, so sorry if my comment was misleading. My buddy used to be a Benz tech at a dealership and that’s what the techs used to say when putting down the lame little C coupe from decades ago. The techs he is still in contact with say the same about the A220. It’s a put down and not indicative of Opel being involved in either car.

My buddy has a C300 and just had to spend $4,000 at an INDY for complex engine work, one of the cylinders wasn't firing. Junk. 70k miles. They really don't make em like they used to. Meanwhile there are still plenty of Gen 1 C-Classes out there engineered when Mercedes was still Mercedes that I'm sure have oodles of miles on them.
What a POS.

Also the idea that an A class is just a downsized S class is patently absurd. It's a FWD econo-luxury car. I'm honestly surprised they didn't just farm it out to Nissan to build.
Yep, the vast majority of G30's I see on the road are 530i's which have the B48 4 cylinder. People are buying the badge, not the car. It's why shopping used for these with the options you want is so hard. The market is flooded with lease return base models. They didn't want adaptive cruise or massaging seats. They wanted a badge.
The new 5 and X3 have such a severe drop in interior material quality that I imagine BMW designed them for corporate fleets as their primary target.

i used to say that someone getting a C class was just buying the badge but now that mercedes has completely sold out and gone full buffet i say that for anyone getting a FF layout mercedes, an FR layout still provides a more special driving experience
has someone said to you that an A class is a downsized S class?!?
