General Car Conversation 2024 - part 2
not sure what you're not understanding... when i'm in the left lane i am ALWAYS passing people too. i don't sit in the left lane for the hell of it. but you're saying as long as i'm passing i don't have to get over as quickly as possible even if a-hole is right up my butt?

you do you. i don't want to be in front of the jerk that is tailgating for longer than necessary either, but i won't be bullied into pulling over because they think they own the road. i have a right to pull over when i think it's safe and if that takes a few more seconds than a-hole behind would like, oh well. what i'm describing is different than the 'left lane bandit' who just doesn't move out of the lane. this doesn't apply for me to those who are going faster and pull up behind, but not right on my bumper. civil behavior gets a civil response.
ah so there are exceptions
but isn't that illegal?

If I’m running 85-90mph I’m not thinking about what’s illegal.😂 I never brought up what’s legal/illegal.
All I’m saying is “move bit get out the way!! Get out the way bit get out the way!!

So you support enforcing speeding laws but not lane use laws? So you respect some laws and not others.
The law says that a driver in the left lane must move to the right when holding up a faster driver. The left lane is for passing, like you said. So, logically the driver in the left lane driving along not passing anyone should not be in the left lane. Is that not correct?

The problem is (and I have mentioned this before, in the past, several times) is that the Move-Over-For-Speeders rule in the left lane directly contradicts the laws that (also) state that the left lane is NOT for speeding. One is not supposed to be going way over the limit in the left lane. So, either way, you rob Peter to pay Paul.

Nobody is asking you to drive faster, just to keep right unless you are passing.
At the end of the day you should not be cruising in the left lane unless you are passing cars, and when you are done passing you should move right. If you do that you will never have to worry about this. It’s not “move over for speeders” it’s “only use the left lane for passing and then get out of it”

This topic is timely, I was driving with my son tonight home from practice and he passed someone on a two lane road (Rt 32) and stayed in the left lane. He stayed there for a little while and I asked him if he was going to get over and he asked why since no one was around so I explained why. We move to the right and then we approach a car sitting in the left lane and he asks my why that guy is in the left lane and my response was because he’s an a-hole, don’t be an a-hole. Of course someone shortly after comes up in the left lane and has to pass on the right…

You're teaching your son the way I was taught and that's awesome.

It's called the passing lane for a reason
Not the- camping out lane.
Not the- I have my cruise on 100mph lane. Lol
like you never break the law, lol.
and i'm sure you never break the law when driving either. lol
and i do. stop making a mountain out of a mole hill and pontificating over and over.
i have little issue with most speeders... my issue is with dangerous tailgating which some drivers (of any age) seem to think is ok. and once again, i will pull over, but when i'm ready and it's safe to do so, not because the car/truck behind is 2 feet from my bumper.
have no issue with that.
here we go... feel better? lol. i guess you don't drive on congested roads. i can be in the left lane passing people in the middle/right lanes and someone (yes, a jerk) comes flying up behind. happens often. sure i'll get over, but sometimes that's not so easy on a congested road. i may HAVE to slow to get over! is that breaking the law? and if i can't get over what am i supposed to do, try to 'get away' from the tailgater? i don't care if taking my time irritates the jerk behind in their 'death race'.
again, you're projecting a situation and making a generalization without knowing the circumstances.
wrong in every way.
ok, but do you fly up to someone's rear bumper at those speeds to 'make' them pull over?
oh so now you're agreeing with me, lol. you're in florida... if you're on the turnpike which between where i live and orlando is only 2 lanes a side until they finish the expansion, people in the right lane are often doing 60 so you have to stay in the left lane even if you only want to do the speed limit (which almost everyone in the left lane exceeds).
understood.
you've lost the plot. you love to speak for 'we' in threads and now it's 'they' for anyone you disagree with.
ha, that's funny... i've been in u.s. longer than i was in uk and couldn't care less about royalty, british empire, etc.

That's why when you drive on track you need to follow the rules for position/passing and speed is not much of a concern.

I'll fully admit that if I'm trying to pass without accelerating to get around a slow breadbox/van and someone comes up on me I'll just step up to 120 if there is no one ahead and then slide right once I'm well past the pack. If the guy who tried to pressure me does a flyby 15 seconds later than good for him. Just had this happen a few times with a new Tahoe and charger, both learned they are slow and stopped messing with me after that. It also helps to move far right as they can take it as a "win" and will just continue to speed off 20 over constantly unless they are picked up.
