General Car Conversation 2024 - part 2
It 100% is a sense of entitlement. They want to be free to do what they want and for everybody else to be free to do what they want lol. Boomer energy.
like you never break the law, lol.
and i'm sure you never break the law when driving either. lol
and i do. stop making a mountain out of a mole hill and pontificating over and over.
i have little issue with most speeders... my issue is with dangerous tailgating which some drivers (of any age) seem to think is ok. and once again, i will pull over, but when i'm ready and it's safe to do so, not because the car/truck behind is 2 feet from my bumper.
have no issue with that.
here we go... feel better? lol. i guess you don't drive on congested roads. i can be in the left lane passing people in the middle/right lanes and someone (yes, a jerk) comes flying up behind. happens often. sure i'll get over, but sometimes that's not so easy on a congested road. i may HAVE to slow to get over! is that breaking the law? and if i can't get over what am i supposed to do, try to 'get away' from the tailgater? i don't care if taking my time irritates the jerk behind in their 'death race'.
again, you're projecting a situation and making a generalization without knowing the circumstances.
wrong in every way.
ok, but do you fly up to someone's rear bumper at those speeds to 'make' them pull over?
oh so now you're agreeing with me, lol. you're in florida... if you're on the turnpike which between where i live and orlando is only 2 lanes a side until they finish the expansion, people in the right lane are often doing 60 so you have to stay in the left lane even if you only want to do the speed limit (which almost everyone in the left lane exceeds).
understood.
you've lost the plot. you love to speak for 'we' in threads and now it's 'they' for anyone you disagree with.
ha, that's funny... i've been in u.s. longer than i was in uk and couldn't care less about royalty, british empire, etc.
The law says that a driver in the left lane must move to the right when holding up a faster driver.

5-10 over is fine. Let your hair down a little.
I don't think you realize you are a hazard on the road. Having others in the left lane have to switch lanes and pass on the right just to get around you makes it dangerous for everyone.
I don't get it. They are triggered because of speeders breaking the law but them breaking the law is all fine and dandy. Seems like a sense of entitlement.
I often cruise at 90 - 95 mph and I still stay right if I am not passing anyone and sure enough I still have others passing me at 100+ mph.
If I am in the right lane getting tailgated and see there are multiple lanes around where they can easily pass then I will let off the gas so the car slows down (not brake) to get them off me.
However, if I see there is a left lane hogger and I am getting tailgated in the right lane I will speed up. Courtesy is getting rarer and all people seem to care about nowadays is themselves. If it doesn't affect me then who cares?
and steve, since you're an expert on everything including the law, tailgating is also illegal.
Florida:
In Florida, tailgating is a traffic violation that occurs when a driver follows another vehicle too closely:
Definition
Florida Statute 316.0895(1) states that drivers should not follow other vehicles more closely than is reasonable and prudent.
Factors
When determining if tailgating has occurred, drivers must consider the speed of the vehicles, traffic, and highway conditions.
Penalties
Tailgating is a non-criminal traffic infraction, so drivers will usually receive a fine and points on their license. Repeat offenders may have their license suspended or taken away. If tailgating causes an accident, drivers may face additional charges, especially if they injure another driver.
The three-second rule
A common guideline for determining if a driver is tailgating is the three-second rule. Drivers can pick a landmark on the road, like a sign or tree, and count how many seconds it takes to reach that landmark after the car in front of them reaches it.

Sorry for being knowledgeable lol. I have no interest to pretend I don't know things to preserve somebody's ego.

just learned florida this year enacted additional law so that 'cruising' in the left lane is illegal always (except for passing).
https://mynews13.com/fl/orlando/news...ft-lane-bill-#
again it's hard to see how this is enforced in dense traffic, except for the left lane person who is clearly holding up traffic and isn't passing anyone to their right.

Only way I won’t immediately move over is if I’m in the middle of passing a slower vehicle and I see myself being stuck behind the slower vehicle for a while before I can get around it. Otherwise I’m getting the hell out of the way.

but isn't that illegal?
