Got the S580 back with the new tires on it, nice improvement. Not massive, run flats have come a long way, but the impact shock of expansion joints, highway reflectors etc is much softer, the runflats gave those sharp jolts that are now rounded over.

Was the improvement worth the $1,500 cost? I mean...probably not but I'm a weirdo lol.

What was wrong with the stock tires?...or did you just want run-flats? If it is just a little softer ride you want, you can sometimes get that by dropping the tires a couple of PSI, although you don't want to go too much under recommended PSIs, as it can add heat and cause wear on the outer-edges.

You're probably the only person I know that changes tires on a new car for just because....lol

Lots of people do it. Just go on Tire rack and read the reviews for pretty much any OE tire. They’re almost always one star reviews. A lot of people hate their factory tires and replace them with Michelins shortly after taking delivery of their car. The most commonly cited reasons are poor wet or snow traction.

My great grand father did that everytime he bought a new Lincoln!

I would be more picky if they didn't cost a fortune. I mean I can afford it, but it's what $1500? 2 grand?

I got the Mercedes with brand new but cheap Chinese tires and Steve pointed it out immediately when I posted just some random pic of something else about the car... he knew the brand, etc. LOL.

And yes, the next set will be Michelins but I can't just let perfectly good tires go to waste. I'm impressed at how they DON'T wear down considering the car.

If you consider those “good” I guess. But I would replace them immediately with some premium tires. That car deserves it!

Not all that odd. 3 years ago, my parents drove their brand-new Santa Fe from the dealer straight to Discount Tire, to have the OE tires swapped for Nokians. They had a separate winter set on their previous car, but can’t manage swapping them anymore, so they went all weather.

I don't want run flats, they come with Runflats. It also came with crappy Hankooks which is really crappy on a $140k car.

O+Like Carfan said lots of people do it to get rid of the runflats. I kept them so I can put them on when I go to trade or turn it in if I need to. It will need tires before I turn it in anyways, so think of it as me getting to enjoy the new good tires and the next guy gets the crappy runflats.

Thats my thing, I pay so much money for a car I want it to perform the best it can in the time I have it. Since I only have it for 3-4 years I hate to put great tires on it and then turn it in.

I think these look better too...

The original Hankooks:

I don't consider them "good" tires. But the car handles great, rides like a silky luxury car when the road is smooth, and they are grippy. There are never any issues with traction in the rain, unlike the LS430. They may not really even be that bad.

But yes, the next set will be top of the line.

More so my point was just it's amusing, how we all have eagle eyes for certain/different things.

The difference a good set of tires makes is huge. Its more subtle when the tires are new...but you'll be blown away when you do finally replace those.

Great!! I'm sure it'll be done within a year. Of course I'll report it all.

Also, a lot of people change tires on new cars because they want to run a different size of tire or wheel.

Well, I did say Steve is the ONLY person I KNOW that did this.

I agree people may do it for sucky OEM tires, parents for all-weathers for an easier life, or people who upgrade wheels and sizes but he does this with every new lease.

Nothing wrong with it. He’s very particular where most aren’t.

Ive seen the results enough to know it's a result of parents who don't take time to actually instruct kids. There is a very clear divide and result to the point I distinctly remember when I was 7 and stunned that other peoples cars were kept so trashy

Exactly. I see it all the time with customer cars and without fail it's older cars or mainstream ones but it always comes back to the type of person. I have several not well off customers with 20 year old cars who still don't ever trash them or I guess they fully clean them out before bringing them in!
