Well that’s nice! I plan on downsizing to 17 in wheels in the fall to increase ride quality.

The 2GR seems to get a lot of hate. But I love it in my 3GS. It feels very responsive and refined.

 

The 2GR is a fine engine, but it didn't keep up with the rest of the engine improvements that were being made by the Germans

 

Basically this, it's not bad when viewed on its own but if you compare it to anything else you realize how behind it is.

 

The 2GR-FSE was amazing when it came out but that's a long time ago. Lexus should have bumped displacement up to 3.8 or 4.0 during it's lifecycle to remain competitive.

They came out with an incredible engine in 2006 and then let it languish for 18 years lol.

 

That displacement increase wouldn't do anything. That's just a 4Runner engine essentially and we have had that forever. Competitive isn't happening when the top lexus V8s at the time can't even keep up with the Germans V6s and the new Lexus TTV6 is a joke and on par with 4 cyl cars from the Germans

 

Toyota had a factory TRD supercharged 2GR in a Toyota sedan somewhere. 2GR-FZE. I can’t remember. Also used in Lotus as well as well

 

So I heard from the dealer, this is actually kind of cool.

The car has 1,100 miles on it because its one of 6 identical spec cars that was used in Las Vegas to drive the Mercedes team F1 drivers around while they were there for the F1 race. There is a $2,500 rebate on the car from Mercedes which is great. I told him to make sure to vacuum all the cocaine out of the carpets and we will be good haha

 

That's some nice extra savings with the $2,500 rebate.
However, you should have kept the coke yourself, bagged it up and made a few extra bucks lol.

 

I wonder sometimes if Toyota lags on new engines because they want reliability and engines that have proven themselves?

I think some kind of update during the 2GR-FSE life would have been better than doing nothing. I guess it's just a Japanese vs German mindset.

Could you imagine BMW coming out with the N54 in 2007 and doing nothing for 17 years? That would never happen.

Care Cut Nut put a new video yesterday about the V35 issues. He doesn't really buy into the "machining debris" excuse. I won't bother linking the vid. It's 40 mins long.

 

I think Toyota has superior smaller engines. The larger engines are less relevant in the long term.

 

Can't argue with that really. Doesn't have the issues Hondas have and they are above average performance wise as well.
