This is not to say the RZ is some amazing EV. I get it .

Totally obvious. And he’s got links to Tesla sunshades

Do you not have TOU EV billing? Even SDGE (owned by the same turds that own PGE) do, and super off peak for us is just under 13 cents per kWh. We get super off peak from midnight to 2pm on weekends and from midnight to 6am and then from 10am to 2pm each weekday (the 10 am to 2pm window, of course, is positioned as a benefit but is really going after NEM 1.0 and 2.0 customers so our sell-to-the-grid rates are super off peak during peak generation hours)

This is not actually what I am paying, my actual cost is around .18 cents per kWh due to most of my power coming from Solar and energy stored on my batteries, the service I'm using (Weavegrid) that schedules charging based on grid load doesn't actually know where the power is coming from and is estimating based on usage time. As far as PG&E, I'm on EV2-A, where off peak is from mid-night to 7am, partial peak is from 7am to 4pm. Here are their rates:

But these rates are only for the actual electricity. The bastards also charge a transmission fee, which also varies based on Peak or off Peak, so in reality, off peak is more like .38 cents per kWh. Solar is what saves my ***

I'm with SCE and have TOU EV plan. Our super off-peak is 8am-4pm (Winter sched). which works for us because we usually charge during that window.

I've got a long one way commute (~130 miles) and charge at work. They've held rates steady at $0.25 which has been nice. Closest supercharger is around $0.60 for us non-Tesla heathens

Southern Cal Edison is basically the SoCal version of PG&E. When I lived in LA and got my power from the LA Dept of Water and Power, my bill was always low, when I moved to Downey in 2000 where Edison was the provider, my bill more than doubled, mainly because of rates

My wife still has her 3 but I drive the R1S as my primary. Since she does all local, her car has only been supercharged once and that was just because the parking lot at a Wawa was packed and if I was going to stop there, I might as well get some juice. I've DCFC'd the R1S probably 10-11 times. Still not a regular thing for us since we prefer flying over roadtrips

There's a new electric utility company called Orange County Power Authority. Rates are even higher because they are ostensibly generated from a "clean energy source". No thanks, I opted out.
In other EV (personal) news, my Ioniq 5's ICCU died last week. It's still with the dealer and they don't know when the part will become available. I like that car a lot but it's going back to Hyundai in December. Time to start my search for a replacement

So one of the reasons I decided not to replace our Ioniq 5, I kept taking it to the dealership for recalls related to the ICCU. A friend of mine who has a 2024 had his die on the freeway because of that issue, and talking to a Uber driver with a Kia EV9 told me it's an issue with his. For me when it comes to EV's, nothing else but Tesla's. I've had ZERO issues with both of mine, multiple long trips on both. Not trying to sell you on Tesla, just saying it's the by far the best EV's I've owned since 2020.

We can also get power from San Jose clean energy cheaper than PG&E, but the problem is PG&E adds a "transmission" charge which is more expensive then the energy itself, for example SJCE's off peak is 0.14 cents per kWh, but PG&E adds 0.22 to 0.33 cents to allow it over it's lines making it all moot buying from SJCE

Well that sucks. Hopefully you get it back sooner rather than later. Good luck! And let us know what might be on the replacement list!

This was a fun surprise. I'm currently a Scout reservation holder and just got this in the mail
