Anyone has experience with aftermarket rims & TPMS in Van?
Hi,
I just got a set of aftermarket rims and tire for my IS250 AWD? I just realized that we have TPMS in our car. Anyone has experience with aftermarket rims & TPMS? Do I need to go back to the Lexus dealer for the installation.
Please give me some information.
Thanks!!

is TPMS on all IS models? if so, contact ken at http://www.advmotors.com , because he owns an IS350 with volk racing wheels, so he might be able to help you.

executive matchup
On my GS 450h, I have a switch iin the front passenger side under the dash (near your feet) where I can switch between 2 sets of TPMS (one for winter time, one for summer time, for example). Not sure if the IS models with TPMS has the functionality to switch between 2 sets of wheels (you need to check your owner's manual).
To my knowledge, only Lexus can program the TPMS, because it's tied to the sensors. Assuming you have the TPMS switch like mine, you only need to do this once.
Then all you need to do after that is swap your wheels and hit the switch.
IF you don't have the TPMS switch to flip between 2 sets of wheels, sorry but you are hooped (well, not really). The main set you use most often (I assume the summer wheels) will have the TPMS, and the winter wheels won't have it - this will cause a fault to occur, and trip the TPMS light. You can drive without the TPMS, but do you really want the light to go on all the time? Only other alternative would be to move the TPMS everytime you swap from summer to winter wheels, and back again.
Hope this helps.

IS has the 2nd set switch
a lot of aftermarket wheels seem to take the sensor as is
if not, iforge has some alternative mountings for them
http://www.iforged.com/press/may25/may25.php
also, i've seen wheels with extra holes drilled in them on the inside to allow for the sensors
or
greens in richmond will mount them somehow inside your wheel
get the #s off the sensors before they're installed because the #s are needed outside the car for the programming
