virgin post: 20's on GS
 

Hey all,

Nice to see others who dig their rides. (BTW, I'm rep-ing Toronto.)

I need some help: I'm thinking of installing 20" rims on my 1998 GS 300. The car is bone stock. I'm thinking of the following setup:

Rims:
20 x 8.5"
32 mm offset
5 x 114.3

Tires:
Front: 225/35/20
Rear: 245/35/20

Again, the car is currently running the stock suspension. I don't have the denaro (aka cash money) for upgrading the suspension, at least not now.

Can anyone tell me, if this setup will cause any rubbing of the fenders? Will the 245's fit in the rear? Is the 35 profile too high, if so should I run 30 profiles? Will I need to roll the fenders?

I've called a few wheel & tire joints & done research on the web. Basically, I've been told "the setup should cause no issues" to "don't do it, go with 19's". However, the price difference between 19's & 20's is minimal, and I've heard 19's are not being made by many wheel makers.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hey bro, I really can't help you out with GS stuff.....but post this Q in the GS forum, you're sure to get a number of responses.....

Well first off the 20's will fit there will be enough clearance with the 225/35/20 rubber but however i think you should not stagger the side wall size like that. when chosing a rim you must try to keep the same rolling dia. i.e. 25.4 or within 3% or your speedo with be off. so i think you should choose a different size of rubber. second i don't think you would want 20's because your not gonna be able to drive very far due to pot holes and any other kind of ***** u see on the Toronto roads. Third if you plan on drving fast you might want to go to with 17/18/19's but try to stay away from 20's they are more for show. Your factory rims should be 215/60/16 so you don't want to go to many sizes up.

well i don't think you'll want to have your car on a slant. with the tires you picked 225/35/20 and 245/35/20 in the rear thats what will happen. The size you should go with if you decide to go with 20's is 245/30/20 front and rear. But the only problem your gonna find with the 245 width is the car will start to track because it now is unable to roll in the grooves of the road. If you live in Toronto message me and i'll take you to a good shop and they give u a good deal.

if you want to have that staggered look you can go with 245/35/20 in front rolling dia. 26.8" and have 275/30/20 in the rear 26.5" rolling in the rear. Those would work because your staying within the limit of your factory rolling dia at 26.2" so it won't throw off the speedo or ruin your ABS or computer
