Well today was the day to get down and dirty. Front chassis harness is pulled- going to be tucking it and cleaning up the bay, sprayed the engine bay with purple power and got to work. Here are a few teasers. Ps this chassis has 324k on it.

Yeah she’s dirty!

Cleaned up pretty well

Now to do a mild shave, fill in a million holes, remove seam sealer, and a mild tuck

Great work dude! I want to do the same to my engine bay one day! Have you considered doing any stitch welding while you have access to the engine bay? With 324k miles, it’s probably worth a little reinforcing here and there to bring back some of that chassis stiffness. I notice when I go over undulating bumps that my roof creaks. I’m itching to reinforce the chassis with some welds here and there!

Looks awesome - always satisfying to get to clean everything with an engine out!

so with stitch welding the seams you really have to bend the metal up to remove all the seam sealer underneath it . Somehow Toyota got seam sealer under the overlapping panels, if you don’t do that you’ll never have a clean weld and will blow thru all over the place . I’m sure a strut brace would Probly work better honestly

You're a better man than I am! Thankfully the swap harness I got with my GTE motor was very clean and ran nicely. However, I have yet to have a car with a caliber of build like this where I could justify the time spent to tuck and shave a bay. But... I've ALWAYS wanted to!

yeah it’s the snowball effect, this was supposed to be a budget build when I started like 20k ago 😂 . People don’t truely understand the cost and the amount of effort that really goes into doing things correctly and no half assed lol . It will be fun tho

That engine bay cleaned up very well!! Just a few spots that need to be cleaned up and spot resprayed really. Very, very clean!

I agree with Nick's desire to stiffen up the chassis again with some new seam welds... but I also agree with you about the tricky nature of re-welding those seams over the work Toyota did years ago making that very difficult to achieve to the same standard as when the car was new. A strut bar may help a little as a finishing touch to that end, along with all your other suspension stiffening modifications.

It's very hard to keep these cars within a reasonable budget but when set up well that is all that matters in the end Looking forward to seeing the progress continue!

yeah there are a lot of things up in the air right now.

so after I get stuff tucked in either going to repaint the two side portions and fix that light surface area from rust or do I just dive down the rabbit hole and add another year to the build by doing a proper shave and full engine bay color change. Shaving and filling the million extra holes, making the bay smooth, then pulling everything out the bay 100% to paint it correctly. The front and rear will basically have all new parts and bushings so I’m not really stressed about a little flex. If Your worries about flex on a sc, might as well just build a tube chassis and 25.5 cage lol. All the rear I’ll be aftermarket arms and aluminum bushings. Mount has solid mounts, upper and lower control arms all spherical bushings. Also thinking about deleting the factory power steering racking and going with the grannas manual rack to delete a few extra things under the hood.

Started to work on relocation of the fuse box but running into a few Issues. The fuse box is not water proof and if I put it upside down behind the bumper it will most likely have water intrusion issues. Anyone relocate the fuse box to the pass side footwell? I’ve seen a few people put them in the trunk as well. Pictures and write up would be a great help if anyone has some insights!

I haven’t done it, but I had planned to relocate mine to the trunk with the battery. I know some Supra guys have done the trunk relocation as well. A lot of extending wires but it’s completely out of the way.

Here’s a link that I planned to use when the time comes: https://www.mkivsupra.net/topic/1985...ocation-guide/
