Default Lexus GS430 Mod Project

One of the unique classes in the Automotive Service Technician Program at SAIT is performance class. We had to research parts and come up with a build for a car. Naturally I chose my 2004 Lexus GS. Now I'm going to actually start to collect parts and build the actual car! Hopefully this is the start of an awesome journey.

Vehicle: 2004 Lexus GS430
Factory HP: 300 HP
Target HP: >500 HP
Factory Engine: 3UZ-FE
Modified Engine: 1UZ-FE Supercharged

Check out this thread. Badblackgs did what you're talking about and he has threads detailing his work.

Thanks for the reference. I really appreciate it. I know it’s a tall order 500 bhp but I am devoting all my extra money to building it right. And no I’m not 17. I’m 22.

hope you got a good job, it is going to cost a lot of coin, just get a 2jzgte and a larger single turbo and you are home free (still going to run you around 7-10k)

That's a good point. But I would rather have the V8 personally. I have already saved $14,000, I want to build the Pistons and Connecting rods. Based on my research the engine alone will run $20,000. So I'm almost there.

why the hell would you spend 20k on a car that cost 2k? be smart and save your money for a house (sorry old person talk, but seriously this is just dumb to spend that kind of money on a car unless you already have a house, savings and retirement), just me $.02

I’ve always wanted to build a high horsepower car. I’m not in it for the money. I’m in it for the experience.

This is just plain stupid. Beyond stupid, no other way to explain this.

I agree, from a logical stand point its stupid, it costs a a lot of money to do for a negative financial return. But for me its about the experience, or as you said firelizard, for the fun.

Talked with Tom at Bullet Performance in Australia. Apparently they are developing a Supercharger Kit for the 3UZ. All for about $6000 without intercooler. I’m probably going to go that route first. It’s a lot cheaper for the power gain. Still going to build th engine with my own 2 hands.

Progress on the engine has been slow due to performance parts for these engines not being readily available, like the supercharger kit. Suspension is coming along much smoother, Have Blitz ZZR Coilovers with the DSC System on order, with Megan Racing Sway Bars being my next suspension purchase.
