YannG's 05 Lexus LS430 Build thread
Hey everyone!
I got my 05 LS430 back in march (which I love), and have been taking care of it since day 1 of my ownership. I thought I would document and show you my progress with the car. I spent most of the last few months tidying it up, along with basic maintenance work. Day 1: https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...5056d94b7d.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...bbe51410aa.jpg I had noticed that some of the interior light bulbs werent working, so I replaced those: Step 1: Remove panel carefully! https://i.postimg.cc/9MXZy4mK/IMG-0847.jpg Step 2: Disassemble unit, again carefully! https://i.postimg.cc/rpN5dGk5/IMG-0845.jpg Replace the bulb: https://i.postimg.cc/X7tft7LB/IMG-0841.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/y89mK4pQ/IMG-0844.jpg Ive also replaced all the interior bulbs with LEDs. I then decided to get my windows tinted. I went with 50% on the windshield and 35% all around. https://i.postimg.cc/6QXd5jD9/IMG-1116.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/JnTJx1tn/IMG-1148.jpg On a hot sunny summer day, I decided to clean my supposedly "tan colored" seatbelts. I don't think they had ever been washed as they were covered in black stuff. https://i.postimg.cc/h45T7PHZ/IMG-1211.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/rsK4Yvt9/IMG-1212.jpg I used Prestone Interior Cleaner with a plastic scrubbing brush and it actually worked pretty well, I was very happy with the outcome. You can see on the right-hand side how clean they were after a good scrubbing. A few random pictures after a very long cleaning session. (included full interior carpet cleaning, seat cleaning, exterior clay bar, wash & dry, wax and seal...) https://i.postimg.cc/Y0ZFcb6B/IMG-1516.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/FskcbXvr/IMG-1517.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/cLq3Xk1Q/IMG-1522.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/VkjCT952/IMG-1523.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/DznXKWX0/IMG-1528.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/QMmWNXQb/IMG-1534.jpg About a week ago I changed the engine air filter (new OEM one...) along with new Michelin Wiper blades. https://i.postimg.cc/XJvBpTx0/IMG-1763.jpg |
Here is what I did today:
Replaced the battery, bought #23 from Costco (seemed like the best deal after reading a few threads on here) https://i.postimg.cc/G3Jx8CbZ/IMG-1800.png Next on the list was an oil + filter change. Step 1 - Get the car on ramps: https://i.postimg.cc/PxdN000w/IMG-1801.jpg Step 2 - Crack loose draing plug and drain oil: https://i.postimg.cc/zfZyFyjp/IMG-1805.jpg Step 3: Remove cover bolts to access oil filter: https://i.postimg.cc/VkbStqjd/IMG-1803.jpg Step 4: Replace drain plug with new OEM washer: https://i.postimg.cc/k5QB17YC/IMG-1806.jpg Step 5: Fit new OEM oil filter ( lubricate seal with new oil before fitting) https://i.postimg.cc/RhFhZKSC/IMG-1807.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/Nfn9LJ23/IMG-1809.jpg Step 6: Fill up with oil. I did 5 quarts https://i.postimg.cc/3R9WhnHb/IMG-1808.jpg I also changed my Parking lights with LEDs: https://i.postimg.cc/fW2kg2CV/IMG-1813.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/gk1jGxfd/IMG-1814.jpg LED number plate bulbs: https://i.postimg.cc/8P7s8RXt/IMG-1815.jpg I also fitted these courtesy lights that show the Lexus logo. Unsure about them for now. What do you guys think? https://i.postimg.cc/GmY2tcCD/IMG-1817.jpg Thanks for looking. All comments welcomed! :) (ps: Ideally I'd like to get it on air with some nicely fitted wheels...) |
Great progress. Per the manual, you're about ½ a quart shy, make sure you double check the dipstick.

Looks awesome. Reminds me of my LS,. I really like the 18" wheels, I think I'll try to find a used set when my 17" tires start going.
Mind sharing what bulbs you used for the parking lights (Did they retain the high-beams?) and where you sourced the bulb for the instrument light (seat heater knobs) Thanks |

I recommend using OEM bulbs Thanks :) |

Got myself an early christmas present : https://i.ibb.co/9gs3Fpb/IMG-1933.jpg Full Air Lift Performance 3P kit, with dual compressors. Thanks for your message LS430Z32TT...The parking lights are LED 501 bulb, they arent for the high beams, thats a different bulb. Oh, wow. From your 2nd post they look much brighter/cooler temp than the OEM.
Ps: My vision / plans for the car ( + would like to source a lip kit and roof spoiler) I know the leon hardiritt orden wheels have been done loads before but I absolutely love the design... https://i.ibb.co/sFpwB4P/ls430.jpg Thanks Yann |
Hah! I'm new to this platform and was very confused. I didn't even know those parking light bulbs existed. I thought those were just the highbeam bulbs with lower voltage.
I like the the Leon Hardiritt Orden's. They look very classy on the 430. Let me know if you decide to sell your OEM 18's |
cant go wrong with the Orden, always been such a classy design even after all these years out on the market.

Update - Part 1 - Trunk build
Hey guys!
Managed to start building my hard wood floor this weekend and thought I would share some pictures! I really wanted to keep access to my spare wheel, so I measured 20 times before cutting anything, and Im really happy with the result. I still need to treat the wood, apply a (wood look-a-like vinyl) and bolt all of the components down. Step 1 : Buy some plywood, lay flat the trunk carpet and mark the wood as a template. https://i.ibb.co/d0zqw83/IMG-1992.jpg Step 2: Cut the plywood carefully ! https://i.ibb.co/r62jyPG/IMG-1993.jpg Step 3: Lay the air lift components as desired. Like I mentioned before I wanted to keep access to my spare, so tried to maximise the space I had and decided to mount everything in the back of the trunk. https://i.ibb.co/GTcL6DY/IMG-2008.jpg Step 4: Measure again a 100 times so that you have to cut the correct amount of each side only once ! ( Measure twice cut once :) ) https://i.ibb.co/WV0mQpm/IMG-2006.jpg Step 5 : I can successfully access my spare wheel ! https://i.ibb.co/4fNB8PG/IMG-2009.jpg https://i.ibb.co/1d72Xhx/IMG-1999.jpg Next steps:
Thanks Yann |
Looks good man on your way to a clean setup. Don't forget to run the water trap line outside the vehicle from the water trap and an external airline that has a Schrader valve on it for manual air fill/drain. Its recommend to install that outside incase water is in your tank it will drain externally and not into your trunk. Here is a tip. If you install a nut sert or since its wood a wood insert you can then bolt the equipment down from the top instead of doing a nut and bolt or dry wall screws :) Can't wait to see the updates
