Rebuilding BC Racing Coilovers

Got a set for my 07 GS450H. Have 40k on them now, they are starting to get a little weak. Front right went out at about 35k miles (usually this is the side that goes first because of potholes and sewer drains on the curb side of the street as you drive in the right lane) but I waited until 40k to replace the strut cartridge.

Straight forward after you take out the corner coilover assembly. There is even a youtube video ion it:

The video didnt show the metal sleeve though that goes into the upper mount.

Anyway when we reassembled the new strut cartridge we over tightened the nylon nut and there was a gap about 4 threads between the bottom of the adjustment knob and the nylon lock nut.

After driving a few miles this is what happens because the strut is too tight. The metal sleeve was pushed into the retaining spring and on bumps it pushed everything up and out through the rubber upper strut mount!

I also had to dig out the old strut and reuse the small spring under the black washer that was under the metal sleeve, because the new one that came with the replacement cartridge got jacked up.

First pic is bad installation passenger side. Second pic is driver side stock (I know the rubber ring popped out)

Moral of the story is to not over tighten the nylon lock nut. And get the adjustment know pretty much flush after installation.

If this should be in Suspension Section can Moderator move it there.
