Kinda a dumb question but did you bypass the neutral safety switch?

During testing I bypassed the entire car's wiring and hot wired the starter. At the moment the neutral switch is bypassed until I rig up a new linkage. Thanks for the second set of eyes!

The transmission builder left the pressure port open, that was a fun discovery

First Start! Logging oil pressure is pretty sweet. I was sweating for a few seconds before pressure started building

Video. Note: No exhaust, its loud

I'm planning to replace the vehicle speed sensor that was in the old transmission with a hall sensor. I believe it will wire right in, and provide "almost" the signal the car expects

Gave the chinese mini-lathe a work out turning this part to size, its a 0.001" press fit on the drive shaft

Final Fitment

Re-jigged the gear sensor, it should work in this position

Changed wastegate springs to 11 psi

Speed sensor in, seems to work rotating the tires by hand makes the speedo wiggle

Water methanol install. 5 gallon diesel kit, with 1500cc/min injector

Got it started with the exhaust, it sounds great with a loping muscle car idle

For those who wanted to hear it running

Speed sensor rigged up. I was hoping the ECU would monitor Frequency, or count rising edges to determine speed. Unfortunatley it monitors Pulse Width - the raised edges on my sensor are about 25% the size of the stock magnet, so the speed comes out 400% higher than what the wheels are actually doing

At least it shows something, haha. With a bit more work I can refine this into something which will work.

Unfortunate issues arose. I took the car out for a shakedown, and the transmission was making some serious noise - it sounded like a huge supercharger, but was coming from the transmission. I sent a video to the manufacturer and got a surprising response: "Something is definitely wrong. Please ship the whole thing back to us, we will cover return shipping costs and sort you out" I've never heard of service this good, usually you need to pay return shipping even if the issue is not your fault. The down side to all this is, I will miss the July 4th land speed competition for a 2nd year in a row.

This year at least, I will take the datsun and see how it does in a half mile.

To complicate things further, my Fiancee and I just purchased a house and moved, and I had a bit of a back surgery which prevents me using my arm for ~3 weeks. It will be a few weeks more before I get the transmission out and ship it back to the vendor for service.

This is how the poor lexus arrived to its new home.

Once I have use of my arm back, I can get to cleaning up this mess and moving the lexus inside. The datsun is on stands having its brakes bled for the standing half mile. Hoping for 150mph out of it! That would be a new personal best land speed.

Haha, too bad CO isnt closer, I could use the help! Looks like yours is coming along awesome, the seats look great!

The datsun got 124mph in the standing half mile, 2nd slowest in the event, lol. The crowds seemed to congregate around it though : )

Back at it! Engine out, in record time, ~8h

Home made crate.. Not pretty, but everything is in there tight. Lots of PIG mats to catch any drips. Hopefully this goes out next week! While draining the fluid for shipping, there was a ton of glitter... I hope it wasn't something I did during assembly.

Love the Datsun shots! Fastest in the group or not, it's hard to go home sad after a fun event. Being able to drive home a fully functioning car afterwards makes it all the sweeter!
