A couple weeks ago I took the car in for the fuel line recall. To my disappointment I was told my water pump was leaking. So I took this as an opportunity to upgrade my cooling system.

I installed a factory water pump I bought from mylparts.com, a radium engineering 1.3 bar radiator cap, and an all aluminum 2 row radiator.

Here's the thickness of the old vs new.

While the car was down I yanked the upper intake manifold to finally install an oil catch can between the pcv and plenum. In my ongoing efforts to keep the car looking as stock as possible, I decided placing the catch can near the brake booster was the best location. I fabbed a bracket and mounted it to the driver side shock tower.

So much room for activities!

That's it for this update. Hopefully I'll have some new data logs to see if my coolant temps change compared to my old logs.

I've put around 5000 miles on the car since last posting. Just did the 105,000 mile service, performed the smog check, and made a couple repairs.

First thing the boring stuff. I replaced the old shocks with a set of Fsports since the rears were starting to go bad.

I have some interesting results from the air/oil separator I installed. I caught a whole but load of shmoo in that thing.

All of that could have been in the intake and heads causing pinging and pulling that sweet sweet timing. Overall I'm a very happy with this mod. If anyone has ever needed proof that installing an air/oil separator here it is.

Since I had to smog the car I had to throw the factory intake back on. I took the opportunity to take a couple third gear data log pulls. I am a little curious about one thing I'm seeing. My coolant temps drop like a rock during high rpm pulls. Like down into the 160's sometimes. I have to wonder if that is affecting performance since these cars pull timing while not fully warmed up.

Hoping to have the chance to data log with the intake back on this week so I can have data with similar weather conditions.

Here's the latest data logs

I just came here to say I appreciate the MIB reference. Also that New Hotness looks good in the engine bay.

Nice build!
My exhaust plan is a lot the same as yours. I think? The goal Killing three birds with one stone and going old school keeping the muffler under the car.
Getting the pipes combined right after the secondary cats, 2.5" to the axle and potentially drop to 2.25" from the axle to the tips to keep the heat and velocity.
In theory there should be no drone and its simple, light and easy to hang.

is your plan any different?

As Redspencer said, good to see others logging data!
Question regarding CC, was your engine consuming oil before the CC install? And how much was there in how many miles?

About the exhaust plan, originally the plan was very similar to that. Chop the exhaust after the rear cats, add the muffler right after, run 2.5" pipes all the way to the back. Since stupid CA made aftermarket exhaust a crime against humanity and I'm planning to go forced induction in the next few months (hopefully) I'm planning to change how I do it. I'm going to keep the factory manifolds and primary cats, run 2.5 inch back to the muffler I have just behind the transmission, then run 2.5 inch to another pair of mufflers at the rear. I also want to try to incorporate the secondary cats in there to allow me to pass visual inspection. But do so in a way that won't inhibit flow. I don't really want loud I want flow.

I'm hoping to source a pair of mufflers from a tanabe medallion or Fsport exhaust .

About the catch can, I think the car would go through 1/4 of a quart of oil every 5000 miles which is very reasonable. I've never had to add oil between service intervals. Honestly, you will always find oil vapor circulating in an engine unless you vent the crank case to the atmosphere. But that's not emissions friendly.

I have new data!

Data logs

Things off now that I see:

My cold air intake is logging 256 g/s vs the stock intakes 246. Which is a pretty drastic increase!

It also looks as if the car is pulling a couple degrees of timing. I peak at 29.5-28.5 with the intake but stock is a reliable 30.5.

My kclv stays at 22-23 according to obd fusion.

I'm quite curious why it seems to pull timing with the added airflow.
