Unfortunately it does, but I don't believe there is a way around that. IMO its still worth it to come into a warm car in the cold. Another thing to keep in mind is that the factory keyfob can only turn on the car if its in range(the range is not great) but i preferred not to have to attach another remote to my keychain. My old honda's remote starter was a viper which used its own remote and its range was about 3X better.
